The Village of Ballston Spa is stepping up to make its sidewalks more accessible for those with physical limitations.
WRGB reports last year the village was awarded money from the Capital District Transportation Commission to plan upgrades to the sidewalks and signage.
Ballston Spa Police Moving HQ
Ballston Spa Police announced their department will officially be moving to a new building. WTEN reports the department will now call 78 Thompson Street their new home. Currently based at 30 Bath Street, the station will move to the former Community Emergency Corps building. CEC moved to their new facility on Geyser Road in Milton back in 2023.
Construction At Saratoga National Historical Park
Construction is underway right now at Saratoga National Historical Park with the goal of improving the south parking lot and trailhead access. WNYT reports construction is expected to last roughly three weeks, and the area will be closed to the public. The new lot will also have an improved entrance and exit onto Route 32.
Cady Hill Hits The Market
Cady Hill on Geyser Road is on the market now for $16 million. According to WRGB, The 8200 square foot house was built in 1851—and has undergone many updates over the years. The home of Mary Lou Whitney is listed as having seven bedrooms and seven and a half baths.
Monahan Lawyers Work On Asset Forfeiture
Lawyers for Kevin Monahan and Andrew Gillis have reached a deal regarding a recent motion in the civil lawsuit over Kaylin Gillis’ death. WRGB reports the Gillis family is seeking at least $5 million in the wrongful death lawsuit, citing the fact that a jury found Monahan guilty of shooting and killing Kaylin. Per the agreement reached this week– the Monahans would not transfer any assets for the time being. A Saratoga County Supreme Court judge will hear arguments on April 11.
Red Cross Aids Ballston Lake Homeowners After Fire
The American Red Cross is helping three people after a house fire in Saratoga County. According to WNYT, the fire happened Friday night on Eastside Drive in Ballston Lake. No one was hurt. The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
Yellow Ribbon Day Donation Drive
Saratoga County Clerk Craig Hayner announced plans for the seventh annual Yellow Ribbon Day Donation Drive. The Saratogian reports the Yellow Ribbon Day Donation Drive helps the local Blue Star Mothers of America fill and ship boxes to deployed military members who call the Capital Region home. The collection of individual-size personal care items and snack foods will run from March 15 through April 7.
Party Planned To Support AIM Services
There’s a big party planned in Saratoga Springs in a couple weeks, and it will raise money for AIM Services and its work to help people who are disabled. WNYT reports it’s called Carnival, and it supports life-enriching arts programs for people with developmental disabilities. It’ll be held April 6 at 6 p.m. at Vapor Night Club.
Superintendent Defends District Actions On Abusive Coaching Practices
Saratoa Springs School Superintendent Michael Patton took questions from the media on Thursday afternoon, where he acknowledged past transgressions within the school district’s athletic program involving abusive coaching practices. WNYT reports Patton pointed out the report concluded “no unlawful activity” took place, and the district addressed complaints in a “timely manner.”
Wilton Mall Cinemas Reopened
A local movie theater has reopened four years after it was shut down. The first showing at Wilton Mall Cinemas took place at 1 p.m. Wednesday. WTEN reports it originally opened in 2013 and has been closed since the start of the COVID-19 pandemic. The theater will hire two full-time employees and 25 part-time workers.
