Veteran-Focused Career Fair In Saratoga

A Career Fair focused on veterans, service members and military families is happening this Friday, Oct. 11, in Saratoga Springs. WNYT reports there will be more than 30 employers there with career opportunities in diverse fields. The event will take place from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Naval Support Facility Field House at 19 JF King Drive.

Equal Rights Amendment Stirs Debate In Queensbury

Ballot Proposal One, the proposed Equal Rights Amendment to the New York State Constitution to be voted on by New Yorkers this fall, took center stage at the Queensbury Town Board meeting Monday Oct. 7 as residents stood to support or block a proclamation by Town Supervisor John Strough. The Post Star reports the proclamation said Queensbury would recognize October as the month the town recognizes the need to “assure equal protection under the law.”

Wilton Man Pleads Guilty To Vehicular Assault

The Saratoga County District Attorney’s Office announced a Wilton man pleaded guilty to vehicular assault following a car accident in August. Matthew Murry, 40, faces up to seven years in prison, with a $5,000 fine. WTEN reports on August 7, deputies responded to reports of a crash on Pettis Road. An investigation into the crash determined Murry swerved to avoid a deer, causing the pickup truck to crash into a pole and overturn.

Group Opposes Tree Clearing Plan On Lake George Mountain

DEC’s plan for tree-clearing on a Lake George mountain is in violation of the state Constitution, an environmental watchdog group contends. The Adirondack Explorer reports the department released its intentions to cut more than 13,000 trees obstructing several highway overlooks on Prospect Mountain.
Protect the Adirondacks, an environmental organization that has successfully challenged the DEC’s tree-cutting plans in the past, says the amount of trees felled would be unconstitutional.

Lake George Trunk Or Treat

Lake George will celebrate its first annual Trunk or Treat and parade on Sunday, Oct. 27. Two hours of fun, 4 to 6 p.m., are planned for this free, every-welcome, wheelchair-accessible event at Shepard Park. The Halloween Parade will kick things off from 4 to 4:30 p.m. It begins at Lake George High School, 381 Canada St., and ends at Shephard Park.

Meals On Wheels Program Seeks Warren County Volunteers

Warren/Hamilton Counties Office for the Aging is in need of a few more volunteer drivers to deliver meals to our seniors in Warrensburg, Chestertown, Brant Lake and Lake George.
Meals are picked up at Countryside Adult Home in Warrensburg at 10:30 a.m. for deliver in these communities.

Police: Mechanicville Woman Arrested For Driving Stolen Car With Baby In Lap

A Mechanicville woman was arrested after police say she drove with a baby on her lap near the Halfmoon Walmart. WRGB reports the Saratoga County Sheriff’s Office responded to a welfare check call at the Walmart at 1549 US Route 9 in Halfmoon Friday. An investigation led to the arrest ofJulymar Garcia-Gonzalez, 25, of Mechanicville. Police say the car she was in was reported stolen from Watervliet.

Car Show In Ballston Spa Sunday

Hundreds of classic cars are set to take over Ballston Spa this weekend. WNYT reports the 22nd annual “The Way We Were” Car Show is happening Sunday October 13 in Ballston Spa. The event brings in more than 400 cars each year. Organizers are expecting an even-larger turnout this year.

Clifton Park Man Found Guilty In Shooting Death Of Barber

A Clifton Park man has admitted to manslaughter in the death of a barber in Albany. According to WNYT, 19 year old Timmoure Miller pleaded guilty in Albany County Court on Monday. The shooting happened on May 13, 2023. Tyrone Staley was killed. Staley was cutting hair at Village Barber and Beauty on 2nd Avenue in Albany. A 19-year-old man and a 9-year-old boy in the barbershop were also hit, but survived.
