Burdett Birth Center In Troy To Remain Open

The Burdett Birth Center in Troy has been saved from closure, thanks to a $5 million state grant. St. Peter’s Health Partners announced on Monday that it was withdrawing its plan to close the facility and shift delivery services to nearby St. Peter’s Hospital, reports WNYT.

SSCSD Schools To Close Ahead Of Belmont Stakes

The Saratoga Springs City School District has made the decision to close school the day before the Belmont Stakes. WNYT reports School Superintendent Michael Patton says the schools will close on Friday, June 7. This is the second day of the Belmont Racing Festival at Saratoga Race Course and one day before the third leg of horse racing’s triple crown at Saratoga.

Malta Drive-In Gears Up For 75th Season

A local business in Malta is celebrating their 75th season this spring and summer. WRGB reports Friday night kicks off another year of showing movies at the twin screen Malta Drive-In. For the past 37 years Ed Caro and his brother have been operating the Malta Drive-In. For opening weekend the movie line up features Godzilla X Kong and Ghostbusters Frozen Empire on Screen 1, and Screen 2 will have Abigail and Monkey Man playing.

New Breathing Packs For Halfmoon-Waterford Fire Department

A local fire department has received upgraded safety equipment. The Halfmoon-Waterford Fire Department was awarded around $300,000 in federal funding to buy new self-contained breathing apparatuses. WTEN reports The new equipment has an alarm that makes it easier for firefighters to find someone who may have been hurt while responding to an emergency.

Saratoga Man Pleads Guilty To Child Porn Counts

A Saratoga Springs man has pleaded guilty to possessing child pornography. 42 year old Christopher Barry admitted that between June 2021 and January 2022, he received child pornography, reports WNYT, in addition to having two phones that contained child pornography. Barry is scheduled to be sentenced on Aug. 27. He faces up to 20 years in prison and a fine of $250,000.

Six Charged In February Clifton Park Stabbing

Six people are facing charges in connection with a stabbing in February in Clifton Park. A 16-year-old was stabbed just after 7:30 p.m. on Feb 20 in Redfield Park. WNYT reports police determined while investigating that the stabbing was in retaliation for a Feb. 13 robbery at the Halfmoon Walmart. That’s when a juvenile was forced into a vehicle and robbed at gunpoint.

Mechanicville Woman Charged In Day Care Incident

A Mechanicville woman arrested after a report of child abuse at Maple Leaf Daycare, Halfmoon. WTEN reports 63-year-old Hannah Bunce allegedly slapped a one-year-old child at the Maple Leaf Daycare’s Halfmoon location. The incident was alleged to have happened on April 4. The parents say they were not informed until the 10th when Maple Leaf told them the child was thrown into a crib and the Saratoga Department of Social Services was involved.

NYC Man To Be Sentenced For Stealing Adult Tricycle In Saratoga County

A jury found a New York City man guilty of robbing a tricycle from a 74-year-old woman in Saratoga County. According to WNYT, 47 year old Anthony Allen was helping the victim bring a large package into the Intrada Apartments last September and ripped the woman’s adult tricycle away from her, before fleeing the scene. Allen faces up to seven years in prison when sentenced in June.

Judge Won’t Reduce Sentence In NXIVM Case

A woman with ties to NXIVM will not have her sentence reduced. WNYT reports U.S. District Judge Nicholas Garaufis has denied the motion for Clare Bronfman. She was originally sentenced to seven years. She pleaded guilty in 2019 to conspiracy to conceal and harbor illegal aliens and identity theft. She and her sister Sara became committed followers and financial backers of NXIVM.
