Greenfield Man Charged With Possessing Assault Weapons, Large Capacity Ammunition Devices
The Saratoga County Sheriff’s office arrested Joseph J. Samascott, 48, of Greenfield on several accounts of possessing assault weapons and large capacity ammunition-feeding devices. WNYT reports this follows an incident on March 24, which Samascott called police for making threats of self-harm and engaging in a shoot-out with law enforcement, and was later taken to a local hospital for evaluation and treatment.
State Officials Warn About Home Improvement Scams
The New York Department of State’s Division of Consumer Protection has issued a warning about home improvement scams. Sun Community News reports those scams have consistently ranked among New Yorkers’ top five consumer complaints. With the arrival of spring, many New Yorkers consider making improvements around their homes, however, contractor fraud and home improvement scams can cost homeowners thousands of dollars and leave them with poor workmanship or unfinished projects.

The Shenendehowa Central School District is looking to make a $50,000 investment into an eSports program.
WRGB reports the aim is to help students cultivate essential skills such as teamwork, leadership and strategic thinking.
The investment will be directed towards various aspects of the program, including gaming equipment, tournament participation fees and coaching staff.
New Nursing Scholarship At Empire State University
Empire State University has announced a new scholarship named after the founding dean of the School of Nursing. WTEN reports the scholarship is available to the students of the School of Nursing and Allied Health who meet the Empire State University Foundation criteria. The scholarship aims to bridge the gap between academia and healthcare by supporting nursing education, particularly in light of the nationwide nursing shortage.

Iowa basketball phenom Caitlin Clark touched down at Albany International Airport Thursday. WNYT reports ecord crowds have followed Clark everywhere she has gone. The same will be true this weekend as Clark and the Hawkeyes play in the regional at MVP Arena here in Albany. The big Sweet 16 game is Saturday.
Farm Tour Series
The National Museum of Racing and Hall of Fame is partnering with seven Saratoga County farms for exclusive behind-the-scenes tours. The Saratogian reports the Museum’s farm tour series kicks off Saturday, April 27, at McMahon of Saratoga Thoroughbreds. There will be a total of eight tours — including a special visit to Old Tavern Farm during the Belmont Stakes Racing Festival — with the series concluding in October.
$19.2 Million LOTTO Jackpot Ticket Sold In Schenectady
A $19.2 million LOTTO jackpot-winning ticket sale was credited last week to Schenectady, New York Lottery officials said. The Daily Gazette reports the ticket was sold for the March 23 drawing. While credited to Schenectady, a lottery official indicated that the ticket sale was through the lottery’s subscription service, which is handled at its Schenectady headquarters. No information on the winner.
Stillwater Approves Apartments, Commercial Space
The former Stillwater Wood & Iron Building will be converted into apartments and commercial space, the village recently announced. The Daily Gazette reports the Stillwater Lofts project by Troyal Properties LLC had been under review for several months and included turning the two-story brick building into 11 one-bedroom and two-bedroom apartments, 4,500 square feet of commercial space and another 1,000 square feet of tenant storage space.
