Water Samples In Troy Show High Lead Levels

A new water quality report in Troy showed drinking water samples with lead levels ten times higher than the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency’s “action level” limit. WRGB reports it makes a recently awarded multi-million dollar grant to the city for lead pipe replacement even more timely. One water sample taken between July and December of last year registered a lead level of 171 parts per billion (ppb). The EPA’s action level is 15 ppb.

Prescribed Burns At Saratoga National Historical Park

Several prescribed fires have been scheduled at Saratoga National Historical Park over the coming weeks. The National Park Service says the areas that will be burned include roughly 60 acres of grass, shrubs, and woodlands along the park tour road. WTEN reports officials say the first burns could happen during the second or third week of April, depending on the weather and site conditions. Due to wind speed, relative humidity, fuel moisture, and other certain parameters that must be met, the days aren’t set in stone.

Remediation Efforts At Former Ballston Spa Dry Cleaners Property

The state Department of Environmental Conservation will resume clean up efforts Monday at the former Rickett’s Dry Cleaners, a superfund site at 2017-2019 Doubleday Ave. after tests showed more remediation of the site was necessary. The Daily Gazette reports a study of soil, groundwater and soil vapor previously performed for the state by Precision Environmental Services of Ballston Spa indicated that the primary concern on the site is chlorinated volatile organic compounds associated with prior on-site dry-cleaning operations.

Clifton Park Restaurant Week Details

The second annual Clifton Park Restaurant Week is coming up later this month. WNYT reports the event will take place from April 22 through April 28. Several restaurants will be offering special two- or three-course menus throughout the week. The menus range in price from $15 to $25. Participating restaurants include Power’s Pub, The Rusty Nail, Ravenswood and Caputo’s Pizzaria.

Town Hall Meeting On Wilton Mall

A Wilton Town Hall Meeting Thursday heard from developers proposing luxury housing for the Wilton Mall. WNYT reports
The agenda for Thursday’s town hall meeting listed the proposal for the Wilton Mall evolution apartment project as a discussion only, but board members went ahead and voted on the proposal. All the members of the board voted in favor except Town Supervisor John Lant. “I am opposed” said Lant.

Colonie Restaurant Leveled By Explosion

An explosion leveled Pad Thai Noodle Restaurant at 113 Everett Road in Colonie early Thursday morning. Nobody was in the building or injured when the building exploded. WNYT reports a call came in around 3:30 a.m. Thursday, with crews arriving quickly to put out the flames. Natural gas may be the cause.

Appellate Court Overturns Conviction Of Halfmoon Man

An appeals court has overturned the conviction of a former Halfmoon man who was sentenced to 25 years in prison in the kidnapping and rape of a Halfmoon woman in 2020 on the grounds that jurors were allowed to remain anonymous. According to WNYT, 66 year old John C. Heidrich, 66, was arrested in March 2020 after an incident in January in which police said he met his victim online and persuaded her to travel by bus from her home near Boston to his mobile home in Halfmoon.

Developers To Discuss Reimagined Plan For Wilton Mall

The developers behind a plan to reimagine Wilton Mall as a mixed-use and community-focused space will present their proposal to the Town Board Thursday night following months of conversations with officials. The Daily Gazette reports the mall originally opened in 1990, but over the last several decades a number of large department stores closed, including Bon-Ton and Sears in 2018.

Saratoga Tattoo Expo Returns

The annual Saratoga Tattoo Expo will return for three days this year, April 5, 6, and 7. It will take place at the Saratoga City Center. Admission to the expo is $15 for a day pass or $30 for a weekend pass. WTEN reports Friday will kick off at 3 p.m. with the tattoo contests running from 6 p.m. to 7:30 p.m., a Tom Petty tribute playing from 8 p.m. to 9 p.m., and the tattoo of the day showcase at 10 p.m. before it closes for the day at 11 p.m.
