Marathon Honors Kaylin Gillis

Hundreds of runners raced from New Scotland to Albany during the Helderberg to Hudson half marathon on Saturday. Some runners raced for a cause. WNYT reports Flags4Fallen, a running community that carries American flags across the finish lines of races to honor fallen Americans, on Saturday honored Kaylin Gillis, of Schuylerville, who was shot and killed after a car she was in accidentally drove up the wrong driveway in Washington County.

Man Charged In Former Partners Death In Saratoga Makes Court Appearance

A man accused of killing his former partner was back in court Thursday afternoon. 31 year old Sebastian Mabb, 31, allegedly killed Brianna Craig, the mother of his child, inside her home on Vanderbilt Terrace in Saratoga during a domestic incident on Feb. 6. Prosecutors told Judge Jim Murphy that they are ready to proceed to trial, and they’re still waiting for lab and DNA reports and the results of a search of Mabb’s social media.

STR Regulations Coming In Saratoga

The city of Saratoga Springs will soon have a law on the books regulating short-term rentals. WNYT reports the exact fees haven’t been determined, said Moran, but there will be a fee schedule for landlords based upon how often they rent their property. The council is fine-tuning the legislation and expects it to pass next month, but won’t enforce it until the fall.

Saratoga National Golf Club Opens Friday

Saratoga National Golf Club will open for golf, shopping, and dining this Friday, April 12, with spring rates in effect and a reimagined restaurant. According to the Saratogian, the Golf Shop will also be open seven days a week, plus tee time reservations are now being accepted up to 30 days in advance.

Saratoga Man Admits To Sexual Abuse Of A Child

A Saratoga Springs man has admitted to sexually abusing a young child. According to WNYT, 56 year old Matthew Breen pleaded guilty in Saratoga County Court on Wednesday to first-degree sexual abuse. Breen was arrested last May after police said he inappropriately touched a child younger than 11 years old. Breen is scheduled to be sentenced on June 26.

Saratoga County Resident Charged In Man’s Death

A Saratoga County man is accused of killing a man from Ticonderoga with whom he had been in a relationship. WNYT reports 69 year old Ronald G. Rayher, 69, is charged with second-degree manslaughter for allegedly causing the death of 40-year-old Thomas J. Krider at his home in the town of Milton on Friday. The sheriff’s office said Rayher is accused of recklessly causing Krider’s death. At this point, it does not appear to be intentional.

Watervliet Man Charged In Neighbor’s Death

A Watervliet man is charged with killing his neighbor Sunday. 24 year old Martin Bassett is charged in the death of 24-year-old Darrell Willetts. WRGB reports at around 3:45 p.m. Sunday, according to police, Bassett and Willetts were involved in a dispute that escalated, resulting in Willetts being fatally stabbed by Bassett at 514 6th St. Bassett is charged with felony first-degree Manslaughter.

Legendary Rock Bands To Perform At SPAC

Saratoga Performing Arts Center announced they will be hosting a concert with legendary rock bands Deep Purple and Yes. The show is scheduled for September 4. WTEN reports you can buy Deep Purple and Yes tickets online through the Live Nation website. Tickets go on sale to the general public on April 12 at 10 a.m.

Several Charities To Receive Picnic Tables At Belmont Stakes

Plenty of people have entered to win a reserved picnic table at the Belmont Stakes at the Saratoga Race Course. However, several local charities will each get one with their name on it. WNYT reports NYRA is providing 25 local nonprofits with a reserved picnic table for each day of the Belmont Stakes Racing Festival, from June 6 through June 9.

Wilton Mall Plan Approved By Town Board

A plan to create 296 apartments and 86 townhomes at Wilton Mall was approved by the Town Board late last week, providing a new future for the facility which has seen large anchor stores leave over the years. The Daily Gazette reports the mall originally opened in 1990, but over the last several decades a number of large department stores closed. Mall officials and Paramount Development formed a partnership nearly three years ago, and are now seeking to add luxury, market-rate apartments and townhomes to the mall.
