A woman with ties to NXIVM will not have her sentence reduced. WNYT reports U.S. District Judge Nicholas Garaufis has denied the motion for Clare Bronfman. She was originally sentenced to seven years. She pleaded guilty in 2019 to conspiracy to conceal and harbor illegal aliens and identity theft. She and her sister Sara became committed followers and financial backers of NXIVM.
Squatting Legislation Considered In Saratoga County
Clifton Park Supervisor Phil Barrett recently introduced local legislation that would make it easier for property owners and law enforcement to remove squatters from homes. It is also being proposed at the County level as well. WRGB reports the Saratoga County hearing on squatting will be May 14th.
Greenfield Man Charged With Intentionally Ramming Person’s Car
A 60-year-old Saratoga County man is accused of ramming another person’s vehicle with his car. Police responded to a disturbance call on Howe Road in the town of Corinth on March 30. Samuel E. Paquin, of Greenfield, intentionally rammed the car and caused more than $1,500 in damage, reports WNYT.
Driver Dies After Vehicle Plunges From I90 Overpass To 787
A man who was supposed to be sentenced Tuesday in Albany County Court ended up dead on Interstate 787.
Parts of 787 northbound and I-90 were shut down, as emergency crews responded.
The Times Union is reporting that the person who died is 57 year old Michael Matteo, a former Albany City Water Department employee. He was to be sentenced after having pleaded guilty to grand larceny.
Mechanicville Man To Be Sentenced In Child Sex Abuse Case
A Mechanicville man is expected to be sentenced to 29 years in prison after admitting to raping a child. WNYT reports 31 year old Ryan M. Jewett pleaded guilty in Saratoga County Court. An investigation by the Mechanicville Police Department revealed that Jewett had contact with the child from the age of 9, the Saratoga County District Attorney’s Office said.
Saratoga Shredders Donates 30 Bikes, Helmets To School District
Saratoga Shredders recently announced the donation of 30 bicycles and helmets to the Saratoga Springs City School District for use in grades 2-5. The Saratogian reports the contribution, part of a broader initiative to foster a lifelong love for cycling and outdoor pursuits among students, also includes a specialized cycling curriculum and professional development for physical education staff.
Whitney Viewing Stand To Open This Week At The Track
Excitement is ramping up for the summer meet at the Saratoga Race Course, and the public will soon have a chance to get a bird’s eye view of the training from the Whitney Viewing Stand. WTEN reports the stand opens on Thursday, April 25. It will be open from 8 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. Thursdays through Sundays. It’s free of charge to attend.
Saratoga County Man Facing Robbery Counts
A Saratoga County man is accused of robbing a person during a domestic incident. 30 year old Jose C. Sartin of Middle Grove, allegedly struck another person in the face and stole property, reports WNYT. The incident took place on Saturday at around 5:30 p.m. on Route 29 in the town of Galway. Sartin was charged with third-degree robbery and misdemeanor assault. He was arraigned in Milton Town Court and released on his own recognizance.
State Police In Wilton Look For Missing Teen
State Police are asking for the public’s help finding Jeffrey Hoskins, also known as Ari Hoskins. WNYT reports the 14-year-old was last seen on April 19 in the area of Tanager Way in Moreau. They are 5’4″, have dark brown hair and blue eyes. They were last seen wearing glasses, a black sweatshirt, black athletic shorts, white sneakers and carrying a small black backpack.
Schenectady County Woman Charged In Daughter’s Death
A Schenectady County woman is accused of killing her 24-year-old daughter by failing to provide insulin and proper care. WNYT reports Skylar Pettit was left for several months in the home after she died. She was found last July.
Amber Geier has been charged with manslaughter, Schenectady County District Attorney Robert Carney announced at a news conference on Thursday.
