Tornado Confirmed In Broadalbin

A Tornado touched down in Broadalbin Wednesday afternoon. WNYT reports the National Weather Service said an EF – 0 tornado touched down on Route 29 just next to Carrero’s Cuts. The storm brought up to 80 mile per hour winds and knocked down trees in neighbor’s yards. No injuries reported.

Horseshoes Hidden Around Saratoga

Three hundred authentic Saratoga racehorse shoes will be hidden throughout Saratoga Springs this year as part of a popular family-friendly scavenger hunt. Now in its second year, a new hunting location was added in the hopes it will attract people to discover the Beekman Street Arts District. WTEN reports Thirty of the horseshoes were decorated by local artists this year.

Petersburgh Man Convicted Of Killing Ex-Girlfriend

A Petersburgh man was found guilty of killing his ex-girlfriend and leaving her body in the woods back in 2022.
Ian J. Hasselwander, 24, was convicted on Wednesday of second-degree murder and strangulation in connection with the disappearance and death of Morgan Bates, reports WNYT.

Sex Charges Face Anti-Violence Activist

An anti-violence activist already facing charges in a shootout is now accused of criminal sex act. WNYT reports 44 year old
Dontie Mitchell allegedly had forcible sexual contact with a victim between Nov. 26, 2021, and Feb. 1, 2022. He was arraigned Wednesday and sent back to Albany County Jail. He is due back in court on Aug. 23.

Clifton Park Man Cuffed On Drug Charges

The Saratoga County Sheriff’s Office reported the arrest of a Clifton Park man following an extensive investigation. Jared Brockbank, 33, of Clifton Park, faces multiple drug-related charges. WTEN reports Brockbank is accused of possessing and selling illegal narcotics throughout Saratoga County. He was taken into custody on July 17th.

Saratoga Jockey Takes Lake George Stakes

At the track, In the Lake George Stakes, Saratoga jockey Dylan Davis had a chance to reign victorious. Riding his horse Pounce, Davis faced a tough challenge as Pounce wasn’t even in the top four with a quarter of a mile to go. In the final stretch, the horse t surged ahead and claimed victory, winning by three-quarters of a length.

Portion Of Clifton Park Road To Close Thursday

A portion of Boyack Road in Clifton Park will temporarily close on Thursday, July 25, for a culvert replacement. Construction will take place between 8 a.m. and 3 p.m. to allow for morning and afternoon commutes. WTEN reports the closure is on Boyack Road between Old Coach Road and Southbury Road. Traffic should use Montgomery Way as a detour.

Contractor Pleads Guilty To Taking Money, Not Doing Work

A man facing charges in different Capital Region communities pleaded to grand larceny on Tuesday. WNYT reports
Dakota Smith took more than $70,000 for a contracting job, and never did the work. Sentencing is set for October 8.
Smith faces similar charges in Albany and Saratoga counties, investigators said.

Farm Aid Returning To SPAC

Farm Aid will return to Saratoga Performing Arts Center (SPAC) for the first time in 11 years on Sept. 21 with an all-star lineup featuring Willie Nelson, Neil Young, John Mellencamp and Dave Matthews, reports the Daily Gazette. They’ll be joined by a host of other artists. Tickets for the charity concert go on sale on Friday at 10 a.m. via Ticketmaster and Live Nation.

Guilty Plea From Undocumented Migrant In Halfmoon Store Hold Up

An undocumented migrant from El Salvador is expected to spend 8 years in prison and be deported after pleading guilty to robbing a Halfmoon convenience store. According to WNYT, 26 year old Jesus Antonio Menendez-Flores, admitted to walking into Mi Mexico Lindo Tienda y Taqueria on Route 9 on Nov. 11. He wore a ski mask, implied he had a gun and demanded money.
