The Rite Aid location at 155 Ballston Avenue in Saratoga Springs is set to close, as part of the company’s filing for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection last year. WTEN reports an employee at the Saratoga Springs location told them the pharmacy is closing on May 13 but they did not know when the rest of the store would be closing.

2024 X-Files Fan Fest in Saratoga Canceled

The X-Files Preservation Collection and Collectibles museum in Saratoga announced the cancelation of their 2024 X-Files Fan Fest. In a post on social media, organizers said they made the difficult decision to call off what would have been the third annual event. WTEN reports the festival, also known as the XFP Fan Fest, was scheduled for June 28 and 29 at the Saratoga Springs City Center.

Pro-Palestine Protesters March In Saratoga

Pro-Palestine protests are happening nationwide including right here in the Capital Region. WTEN reports on Wednesday, protesters flooded the streets of downtown Saratoga Springs rallying against Israel’s war on Hamas and calling for a ceasefire.
Dozens of protesters gathered at Congress Park to kick off the rally. They then marched down Broadway to city hall.

Headliner Announced For ‘Belmont On Broadway’

Officials in Saratoga celebrated “Belmont on Broadway” on Wednesday, a week-long event that will kick off with a concert on June 5. Blues Traveler was announced as the headlining act for the free, family-friendly concert which will take place on Broadway, reports WTEN. Saratoga Race Course will host the Belmont Stakes, the third leg of the Triple Crown, in just over one month.

The month of May is National Bicycle Safety Month, so the New York State Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV) is reminding all road users to share the road safely and responsibly whether driving, biking or walking. High Schoolers Get A Chance To Explore NCCC Campus

High school students from across the region traveled to North Country Community College’s Saranac Lake campus on Tuesday to get a taste of what the college experience is all about. Explore NCCC Day, organized by the college and CFES Brilliant Pathways, brought more than 150 students in grades 9 through 12 to the campus for a series of hands-on workshops and programs with college faculty and community members.

Saratoga, Accounts Commissioner Facing Lawsuit

The city of Saratoga Springs and Accounts Commissioner Dillon Moran are being sued by a former assistant assessor who claims she was unreasonably fired after she brought up concerns regarding Moran’s actions related to a city assessment and company hired by the city to do assessment work. The Daily Gazette reports Caron Schermerhorn filed the lawsuit in state Supreme Court in Saratoga County last week, for what she calls retaliatory discipline, retaliatory termination and false statements made to potential employers to intentionally block plaintiff from obtaining other employment.

$50K Reward Announced For 40 Year Old Saratoga Cold Case

The Saratoga Springs Police Department has announced that the family of Sheila Shepherd, whose maiden name was VanNess, is offering a $50,000 reward to anyone who can provide information that leads to the identification and arrest of the person responsible for her death. WTEN reports her case has gone unsolved for over 40 years.

Corinth Man Busted For Alleged Crack Sales

A Corinth man is accused of selling crack cocaine and cocaine throughout Saratoga County. WNYT reports 35 year old
Nicholas E. Harwood was arrested after police searched his residence on Liberty Street in the village, charged with three felony counts and two misdemeanor counts of criminal possession of a controlled substance.
He was arraigned in Malta Town Court and sent to Saratoga County Jail in lieu of bail or bond.
