Hundreds Take Part In Kelly’s Angels Mother Lovin’ 5K

Hundreds of people laced up their sneakers and hit the pavement for the 12th annual Kelly’s Angels Mother Lovin’ 5K on Sunday morning. The race was held at Saratoga Spa State Park. WNYT reports Kelly’s Angels helps Capital Region kids and their families affected by cancer and other life-threatening illness.

Final Commencement Ceremony At The College Of St. Rose

The College of Saint Rose held its final commencement ceremony on Saturday. More than 5,000 people were in attendance as a total of 1,736 undergraduate and graduate degrees and certificates of advanced study were conferred, reports WNYT.
This was the final class to graduate as the college decided in November to shut down due to financial issues and declining enrollment.

Parking Updates For Saratoga

At the recent Saratoga Springs City Council meeting, an update regarding parking at the Saratoga Springs Public Library. New restrictions will give priority parking to library patrons during the day and will allow the city to utilize the lot for the new seasonal paid parking program outside of library operating hours.

Shen Responds To High Lead Water Levels

The Shenendehowa School District has placed clear signs at all water outlets, like hand washing sinks, that shouldn’t be used for drinking; and removed sinks that are no longer actively used, in the wake of testing that showed high lead levels. In all, more than 100 samples across nine different schools came back with elevated levels. While at least 19 elevated tests were from sources like water fountains.

One Arrested After Dogs Seized At Halfmoon Home

One person was arrested after dozens of dogs were seized from a home on Thursday in Halfmoon. According to the Mohawk Hudson Humane Society, more than 30 dogs were seized from the home on Brookwood Road. WTEN reports the Saratoga county Sheriff’s Office also helped with the seizure. Some of the dogs are going to a shelter in Saratoga for treatment while others will go to the Mohawk Hudson Humane Society.

Taxes Rise In Proposed SSCSD Budget

Saratoga Springs City School District residents will vote on a proposed spending plan for 2024-25 that is 4.2% higher than the approved 2023-24 budget. According to the Daily Gazette, the district, which supports around 6,000 students, will also increase the amount raised by taxes almost 3.5%. The proposed budget is up for a vote on May 21st.

School Budget Hearing In Galway Thursday Night

Galway Central School District will host a hearing Thursday night on a 2024-25 school budget would increase spending by 2.7%. The Daily Gazette reports residents will vote on May 21 on whether to approve the spending plan that calls for $25,735,265 in spending next school year — $685,816 more than it approved for this school year.

Man Sentenced In Deadly Ballston Spa Crash

A Schenectady man was sentenced in the fatal hit-and-run in Ballston Spa that happened in November. 38 year old Gary Lucas was sentenced to one and one-third to four years for leaving the scene of an incident without reporting a death and traffic law violations. WTEN reports Lucas was traveling on Route 50 in Ballston Spa when he struck Meredith Hamilton, 47, who was in the area of the crosswalk at the intersection of Brookline Road. The Ballston Spa woman died at the scene.

BSCSD Budget Hearing Wednesday

Ballston Spa Central School District will host a public hearing tonight on a proposed 2024-25 spending plan increasing district spending by 2.8% and the amount collected through taxes 4.1%. The Daily Gazette reports the district has proposed a $107,179,996 budget for the 2024-25 school year, as compared to $104,232,811 for the 2023-24 school year.

Homeless Man Charged After Allegedly Hitting Sheriff’s Cruiser In Stolen Vehicle

A homeless man is in Saratoga County Jail after police say he stole a car and hit a sheriff’s patrol vehicle while fleeing.
WRGB reports deputies responded to reports of a stolen vehicle on I-87 northbound near Exit 10 in Clifton Park Monday night just before 6:45 p.m. 37 year old Jacob R. Hayner was arrested and charged with reckless endangerment, criminal mischief and unlawful fleeing a police officer in a motor vehicle.
