Man Cops Plea To Stealing Truck, Leading Police On Chase

A man pleaded guilty to stealing a pickup truck in Clifton Park. WTEN reports 38 year old Jacob Hayner admitted that back in May he stole a truck at a Stewart’s and fled on the Northway. He was later surrounded by state police and the Saratoga County Sheriff’s Office after leading them on a chase. He also admitted to intentionally ramming a deputy’s car. No one was injured.

Saratogoa County Elections Security Workshop

The Saratoga County Board of Elections recently took part in an elections security workshop, one of four counties chosen to host the training in the state before the next general election. WTEN reports presentations about cybersecurity regulations, voting equipment, and misinformation about elections were shared. After the presentations, the board participated in hypothetical cyber and physical security exercises.

Clifton Park Teen Facing Gun Charges In Albany

18 year old Jassen Washington of Clifton Park is facing criminal possession of a weapon and menacing charges. WNYT reports Washington and two other people allegedly pulled out a gun when they were asked to leave any area behind an Albany home Tuesday night. Washington was found a short time later near Lincoln Square Apartments and arrested after a brief foot chase. He had a loaded .380 caliber handgun on him.

Schenectady Shooting Leaves One Dead

A shooting on Charles Street in Schenectady left 1 woman dead Wednesday night. WNYT reports just after 8 p.m. Wednesday, Schenectady Police responded to a report that a female had been shot. The victim was pronounced dead at the scene. Officers also found a male at the scene with serious injuries. He was detained and is now at a local hospital.

New Name For New Year’s In Saratoga

Originally called First Night, and then named Saratoga New Year’s Fest for the past two years, the Spa City has a new partnership and is rebranding the event once again. WTEN reports it’s now called Saratoga New Year’s Eve and is set for December 31, 2024, and January 1, 2025.

SSPD, FBI Form Fentanyl Fighting Task Force

The City of Saratoga Springs and the FBI are teaming up in a joint task force to take on fentanyl. WTEN reports
Public Safety Commissioner Tim Coll says there have now been two fentanyl related deaths in Saratoga, this year. He says the initiative has been in the works for several months, as the city has seen an uptick in fentanyl-related issues in the city.

Identity Of Woman Killed In Fire Revealed

The woman killed in a deadly house fire in Ballston Spa has now been identified. 84 year old Mary Lou Cotton of Milton was found dead inside her Greenwood Drive home, after the Saturday evening fire. WNYT reports the cause of the fire remains under investigation.

Bicyclist Struck And Killed By Vehicle In Milton

A Saratoga Springs man has died after being hit while on New York State Route 29. WNYT reports the crash happened around the Saratoga Winery in the town of Milton just after 11:30 Monday evening when a Jeep struck two bicyclists. 44 year old
Nathan J. Shreve died at the scene. The other bicyclist was transported to Saratoga Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

Schenectady Mother’s Court Hearing Delayed In 11 Month Old Daughter’s Death

A planned court hearing for 25 year old Persia Nelson, the Schenectady mother accused of murder in the March death of her 11-month-old daughter Halo Branton, was adjourned on Monday to an unspecified future date. The Daily Gazette reports she is accused of leaving Halo in a utility tunnel on the General Electric campus in Schenectady on March 9, causing the girl to die of exposure and hypothermia.
