The Veterans Business Council of the Saratoga County Chamber of Commerce is holding a fundraiser. It’s called the VBC Jamboree. WNYT reports the event is aimed at raising funds for veterans’ initiatives of the Veterans Business Council. The council’s traditional cornhole tournament is happening on May 23 at the Gurtler Brothers VFW Post 420 in Saratoga Springs.
Man Arrested For Sexual Contact With Child In Wilton, Saratoga
State Police of Wilton along with Whitehall Police arrested 23 year old Sean T. Devernoe, of Middle Grove for rape and sexual abuse on May 15. After investigation with the Whitehall Police Department, Troopers say it was found that Devernoe had sexual contact with a child under age 17 in June 2023 while located in Wilton and Saratoga Springs.
21 Graduate From Leadership Saratoga Program
A class of 21 local leaders graduated this week from the Leadership Saratoga program.
Directed by the Saratoga County Chamber of Commerce, this award-winning, transformative program is dedicated to the development of leaders who will serve their communities today and in the future.
The first Leadership Saratoga class graduated in 1986, and the program has since assisted in training and educating nearly 700 leaders in the Saratoga community.
Lawyer Says HVCC President Asked To Be Placed On Leave
Hudson Valley Community College President Roger Ramsammy asked to be placed on paid leave amid a sexual harassment investigation, according to his lawyer. The Daily Gazette reports the HVCC Board of Trustees on Wednesday voted to place the $275,000-salaried executive on leave and put recently retired administrator Louis Coplin in temporary command of the Rensselaer County-based state college.
E-Sports Program Launches At Saratoga YMCA
YMCA officials have recently launched a pilot E-Sports program in Saratoga, which officially began earlier this month. The program aims to engage children and teens in a safe, community-oriented environment. WRGB reports the E-Sports program, which runs for seven weeks, is part of the Saratoga YMCA’s new STEM room. In addition to gaming, the program includes instruction in graphic design, coding, and logo design.
Malta Day Care Center Shut Down For Violations
Parents at the Maple Leaf Child Care Center in Malta were left scrambling for childcare after the daycare shut down due to multiple violations. According to WTEN, the violations issued by the state Office of Children and Family Services addressed competent child supervision, issues with corporal punishment and issues immediately calling 911 for children requiring emergency medical care.
Asylum Seekers Evacuated From Rotterdam Hotel
The asylum seekers at the Rotterdam Super 8 were evacuated around midnight Wednesday after it was determined the property had no fire alarm or sprinkler system protection. WTEN reports they were taken by bus to the Ramada hotel in Albany. Officials said it’s just one of six hotels the Rotterdam asylum seekers were taken to. The migrants from New York City arrived at the Super 8 hotel in Rotterdam nearly a year ago.
Gansevoort Man Charged With Embezzling From Employer
State Police arrested a Gansevoort man after he was allegedly embezzling money from his employer. Seth Berger, 53, has been charged with third-degree grand larceny. WTEN reports Berger is accused of accepting cash payments from customers on behalf of a business in Northville that he reportedly worked at from 2021 until August 2022 and embezzling more than $3,000.
Corinth Woman Cops Plea To Assaulting Infant
A Corinth woman pleaded guilty Wednesday to assaulting an infant. Kaitlyn Walker was arrested in March 2023 after police were contacted by Saratoga County Child Protective Services about an injured infant who was under Walker’s guardianship.
Walker was charged with felony second-degree assault and a misdemeanor of endangering the welfare of a child. She pleaded guilty to the assault charge.
Ballston Spa Woman Charged With Driving Drunk With Child In Vehicle
Ballston Spa woman is accused of drunken driving with a child under 15 in the vehicle. WNYT reports police responded to a crash on Saratoga Road in the town of Ballston just before 9:15 p.m. Tuesday. The driver, 27-year-old Haley A. Czwakiel, was given a test and found to be drunk. She was released on appearance tickets and is due in Ballston Town Court at a later date.
