South Glens Falls PD Seeks Man Who Approached Child

The South Glens Falls Police Department said it is actively investigating the report of a suspicious male in a pick-up truck approaching a child Wednesday, Sept. 18, at around 6 PM in the vicinity of Gansevoort Road and Reynolds Street. The Chronice reports police described the suspect as Asian, approximately 40 to 50 years old, driving a dark green Chevrolet pickup truck with yellow license plates.

Aviation Mall Evacuated Due To Restaurant Fire

The Aviation Mall in Queensbury was evacuated on Thursday after a fire at the 99 Restaurant. WTEN reports fire officials said the fire started after a piece of equipment was moved for cleaning. The movement broke the gas line and started the fire. Fire crews said they initially had some trouble shutting off the gas, which was located on the ceiling, and they needed a 10-foot ladder to access.

Milton Man Dies After Falling Into Compactor

A Milton man was killed Wednesday after falling into a compactor at Cottrell Paper. The industrial accident happened shortly before 12:30 at the plant on Rock City Road Milton, reports WNYT. 42 year old Anthony T. Smith became trapped in the compactor. Employees at the company and members of the Rock City Falls Department and Community EMS freed him from the machine, but they were unable to revive him.

Ballston Spa Man Convicted In Deadly Baseball Bat Assault

A Ballston Spa man was found guilty Thursday of beating his neighbor with a baseball bat that eventually caused the man’s death. WNYT reports Pharrin Greene was convicted in Saratoga County Court of manslaughter for the assault of Bernard Rodgers in Ballston Spa on March 12, 2022. Saratoga County District Attorney Karen Heggen said that the assault left Rodgers with deadly injuries.

Robot Put To Work In Price Chopper/Market 32 Stores

Price Chopper/Market 32 will soon be the first grocer in the country to use cutting-edge technology. WNYT reports the company is launching a pilot program featuring the Tally robot. It’s designed by Simbe Robotics. Tally will autonomously navigate store aisles up to three times a day scanning shelves to identify out-of-stock items and pricing discrepancies.

Saratoga Plans Public Works Commissioner Special Election

Saratoga Springs residents will have a chance to vote in a special election for a new Public Works Commissioner before the year is up following a decision by the City Council Tuesday. The Daily Gazette reports the DPW commissioner position has been vacant for the last month, following Jason Golub’s departure.

Special Olympics New York Says Games Will Return To Glens Falls

Special Olympics New York has announced the games will return later this year. WNYT reports the games will be held in the city of Glens Falls on October 18 and October 19. They are expected to draw nearly 1,000 athletes and coaches from across New York state. Special Olympics New York is the largest state chapter in the country, serving more than 45,000 athletes.

Lake George In-Water Boat Show This Weekend

Boating enthusiasts from central New York and elsewhere in the Northeast U.S. will be headed to Lake George Village this weekend to view and test-drive dozens of watercraft featured in the annual Lake George In-Water Boat Show. The two-day event is to be held Saturday, Sept. 21 and Sunday, Sept. 22 between 10 a.m. and 5 p.m., reports the Sun Community News.

Warren County Homeowners Can Apply For Help In Wake Of Windstorm

New York State has announced that applications are now available for income eligible homeowners affected by severe storms that occurred in New York State in July and August 2024, including the July 16 windstorms that devastated parts of Warren County. Under this program, administered by NY Homes and Community Renewal (HCR), emergency home repair assistance may be available to impacted homeowners who reside in the impacted counties.
