48th Marathon Dance At South Glens Falls High School

South Glens Falls High School’s 48th Marathon Dance organizers announced the support of 34 beneficiaries. The dance will occur on Friday, February 28, and Saturday, March 1. WTEN reports since the dance’s inception, $11.3 million has been raised for youth Glens Falls families, organizations, and surrounding communities.

Judge Makes Decision Around Civil Cases In Deadly Shooting

A judge has decided that the civil cases against convicted driveway shooter Kevin Monahan, his wife, Jinx, and their insurance company can be combined. WNYT reports a judge has ruled that the suit brought by the family of Kaylin Gillis who was shot and killed by Monahan in 2023, and Gillis’s boyfriend, Blake Walsh, can be joined into one trial.

Whitehall Receives $2 Million Grant For Sewer Lines

The village of Whitehall is receiving $2 million from the Community Development Block Grant to replace the sewer lines. Community members and businesses are still being asked to limit water use more than a month after the water system failed. WTEN reports officials blamed the failure on a water main break and a separate leak that took months to locate.

SUNY Empire Announces Online Spanish Language Business Program

SUNY Empire is launching SUNY’s first Spanish language online Bachelor of Business Administration program for Fall 2025. WTEN reports the 124-credit program teaches accounting, economics, finance, human resource management, and more for bilingual students in the state and abroad. It will be taught fully online and entirely in Spanish.

Lake George Winter Carnival goes back to traditional

The Lake George Winter Carnival is just around the corner bringing back classic and traditional events. The month-long winter weekend event begins on Saturday, February 1, with opening ceremonies at noon a parade down Canada Street at 4 p.m and with fireworks at 7 p.m. Participants can expect free hot chocolate and s’mores every weekend, dog talent competitions, make-your-own tie-dye shirts, and more.

Glens Falls hospital limits visitation

Glens Falls Hospital announced on Facebook that it is imposing temporary visitation restrictions to safeguard patients and staff as seasonal respiratory viruses begin to circulate.The hospital will only allow visitors over the age of 18 and will limit entrances.

Glens Falls council member declares as candicate for mayor

A Glens Falls Common Council member has announced she will be running for the mayor of Glens Falls. Diana Palmer has been on the common council for seven years representing the 3rd Ward. In her announcement Palmer stated Government should be a partner, supporting and empowering those who build, restore, and invest in Glens Falls. Her opponent will be incumbent Mayor Bill Collins in office since 2022.

Special election to replace public works director

A special election is happening later this month to decide the new Saratoga Springs commissioner of public works. This is to fill the vacancy left behind by former Commissioner of Public Works Jason Golub. Polls will be open in the city on Jan. 28 from 6 a.m. until 9 p.m., but you can get your votes in ahead of time with early voting at the Saratoga Springs Rec Center January 18 through January 26.

Fire causes heavy damage to Gilbert Road home

Fire badly damaged a home at 107 Gilbert Road in Saratoga Springs on Monday, forcing two people from the home. The fire broke out late Monday morning. About 30 firefighters from Saratoga Springs and the Malta Ridge/Round Lake fire departments quickly extinguished the blaze. “The residents are fine and no injuries but significant damage to the structure. The cause was electrical, according to the fire chief.
