Man’s Body Found In Glens Falls

Glens Falls police are hoping to learn more about what caused the death of a 37-year-old man found Friday morning on a sidewalk on William Street. WNYT reports police were called to find the man lying just off the roadway. Detectives say there were no obvious signs of injury, and they are awaiting results of an autopsy and toxicology tests.

Grounded: Get Down To Earth In Saranac Lake Event

The Saranac Lake Area Chamber of Commerce is hosting the second annual community event called “Grounded: Get Down To Earth In Saranac Lake.” The month-long event is meant to highlight all the great activities the Saranac Lake area has to offer during what is typically seen as an undesirable season (“mud season”). The event will start with a “kick-off” 5K Run/Walk on May 7th at Riverside Park in Saranac Lake. This family friendly run will celebrate community and the spring season and provide opportunity to start the Grounded challenge.

New Partnership Between GlobalFoundries And PsiQuantum

A total of $25 million in federal funding will spur a new phase in the partnership between GlobalFoundries and PsiQuantum in a step toward building a quantum supercomputer. The Saratogian reports the funding, included in the state budget, will expand research and development spearheaded out of the Air Force Research Laboratory in Rome, New York (Rome Lab), to manufacture and test photonic quantum computing technology.

New Scotland Man’s Death Ruled A Murder

A suspicious death in New Scotland is being investigated as a homicide. According to WNYT, the 35-year-old victim was found dead inside his home. The house is on Miller Road inside a new development. Deputies are processing the residence and searching for a possible weapon in the area. Police received a call to do a welfare check at a home on Miller Road. When deputies arrived, they found a man inside who was unconscious on the floor.

DEC Takes Action Against Plastics Manufacturer

DEC announces enforcement actions against SABIC in Selkirk after a September 2020 incident at the plastics manufacturing facility that released approximately 22,057 pounds of styrene vapor to the environment, threatening public health and safety. Offciials say the actions include $320,000 in fines and hold SABIC accountable for creating a dangerous situation that threatened the health and safety of employees, emergency responders, and the surrounding community.

Albany Med Gets COPD Grant Money

Albany Med is getting a nearly $3 million grant from the National Institutes of Health. WNYTreports the money will be used to study how carbon dioxide and metabolism affect chronic obstructive pulmonary disorder. COPD is a group of diseases, including emphysema and chronic bronchitis – that block airflow to the lungs, which affects about 16 million people.

Walk-In Vax Clinic Thursday

A walk-in vaccination clinic in Saratoga County Thursday, April 14, from 1:30 p.m. to 3:30 p.m. at Saratoga County Public Health, 6012 County Farm Road, Ballston Spa. First dose, second dose, third dose, and first and second dose boosters for Moderna, Pfizer, and Johnson & Johnson (J&J) will be available. The vaccines are free. No proof of insurance is required.

Halfmoon Woman Badly Injured In Motorcycle Crash

The Warren County Sheriff’s Office is investigating a serious crash between a motorcycle and a small SUV. Police said the crash took place around 5:40 p.m. Tuesday on Quaker Road in the town of Queensbury. WTEN reports the motorcyclist, 25-year-old Jasmine Earnest, of Halfmoon, was ejected and sustained life-threatening injuries. She was airlifted to Albany Medical Center.

Greenfield Center Woman Arrested In Deadly Crash

An arrest has been made in connection with a deadly crash in the town of Greenfield, last October. Ashley Donovan from Greenfield Center is charged with criminally negligent homicide, endangering the welfare of a child, and driving at excessive speed, reports WNYT. She was driving more than 90 miles an hour, according to the Saratoga County Sheriff’s Office, before hitting another car at State Route 9N and Lanie Drive. The driver of the other vehicle, 62-year-old Diane Welch, died.

Lt. Gov. Resigns Following Arrest

New York Lt. Gov. Brian Benjamin resigned Tuesday in the wake of his arrest in a federal corruption investigation. Benjamin, a Democrat, was accused in an indictment of participating in a scheme to obtain campaign contributions from a real estate developer in exchange for Benjamin’s agreement to use his influence as a state senator to get a $50,000 grant of state funds for a nonprofit organization the developer controlled.
