GlobalFoundries could be laying off about 220 employees at its Fab 8 plant in Malta. The Times Union reports if it happens, it would be despite the company reporting record earnings in early November.
Internet Provider Has Plans For Clifton Park
Clifton Park could soon have some of the fastest internet service in New York. WNYT reports fiber internet provider Greenlight Networks said Tuesday it’s expanding services further in the town. More than 300 homes have been hooked up so far. The company hopes to reach almost 12,000 households before it’s done.
Committee To Focus On Saratoga’s Future
There’s a new committee focusing on the future in Saratoga Springs. According to WNYT, the new 14-member Downtown Advisory Committee includes leaders in both the public and private sector. The panel will focus on putting together a third-party audit of all protocols that are currently in place downtown and it also hopes to find ways to enhance communication between businesses and the police.
Council Considers Bar Resolution
Saratoga Springs city council is considering a new resolution. The resolution, reports WNYT, would establish that for any individual or business applying for a new liquor license – or a renewal or modification of a current one – the city attorney will write to the State Liquor Authority to petition them to grant the request only upon first prohibiting the applicant from serving alcohol after 2 a.m.
Clifton Park Teen Arraigned In Stabbing
A Clifton Park teen was arraigned in Saratoga County Court on Monday, after allegedly stabbing a family member multiple times back in September. 18 year old Joseph Colaccino was arraigned on charges of assault, criminal possession of a weapon and tampering with physical evidence, reports WNYT, in connection with an incident involving a family member at their home in the Fox Run Apartments in Clifton Park.
Saratoga County Hit-and-Run Case Heading to Grand Jury
A judge has dismissed the indictment against John Lincoln-Lynch – the man accused of a fatal hit-and-run in South Glens Falls, because of errors made by prosecutors. WNYT reports Lincoln-Lynch was offered a plea deal last month by the Saratoga County District Attorney’s Office, the defense rejected the deal. Lincoln-Lynch is accused of hitting and killing Paul Trombley in February of last year, then taking off.
States With Highest Natural Gas Bills
MoneyGeek expects customers to see their natural gas bills up about 33% this year. It ranks New York as the state with the sixth highest energy costs with average monthly gas bills at 210 dollars per month, an increase from last year of about $37 dollars a month. Oklahoma sits atop the list with average monthly natural gas bills of just over $300.
Investigation Ongoing Into Cause Of Deadly Wynantskill Fire
Police say that an early morning house fire in North Greenbush claimed the life of an 82-year-old woman. WNYT reports the fire started after 5:00 a.m. Sunday morning at 17 Bellemeade Street in Wynantskill. Two 2 adults and 2 dogs were able to safely escape, but one adult could not. This fire remains under investigation and a cause has not yet been determined.
Weekend Starts With Snow
Seeing snow in the region expected to move out by Saturday morning with snowfall amounts varying widely across the area based on elevation. Snowfall amounts of 18 to 24 inches will be likely in the Catskills, southern Adirondacks and southern Vermont. In the valleys, where rain mixes in, 5 to 10 inches will be likely. Snowfall rates could reach as high as 1 inch per hour especially in the higher elevations.
Jazz Fest Lineup Announced
The 46th annual Jazz Fest is returning this year — with some big names in its lineup. WRGB reports the line-up is headlined by musical icons Bonnie Raitt, Pat Metheny, Angelique Kidjo, Tower of Power, and Chucho Valdes. From jazz to roots, funk, blues, and beyond, the festival is bringing some electrifying artists. The 2023 show will be Saturday, June 24 and Sunday June 25.
