This is National Safe Boating Week and an event was held in the region to raise awareness. Authorities said there were 192 boating accidents on state waterways in 2021. Eighteen people were killed, and more than 100 others were hurt and almost 90 percent of people who drowned following a boating accident in 2020 were not wearing a life jacket.
Tiki Tours Transitions To ‘Toga
Tiki Tours, a staple of Lake George summers since 2016, have made their way south. WNYT reports the Polynesian-themed party boat is launching this summer from docks at Lee’s Park Campground, just around the corner from the state boat launch.
They’ve already started booking and are available seven days a week, weather permitting.
Man Sentenced In Assault Outside Clancy’s Tavern
A man from Saratoga Springs was sentenced Wednesday for his role in a fight last August outside Clancy’s Tavern. WNYT reports James Garafalo will spend four and a half years in state prison after pleading guilty to second-degree assault. Garafolo and his older brother Jordan punched 56-year-old Mark French causing him to fall. French died from his injuries.
Saratoga Spa State Park Hosting ‘Get Outdoors & Get Together’ Events

DEC Seeks Comment On Draft Management Plan In Saratoga County
DEC is seeking public comment on a draft management plan that will continue public recreational access and protect natural resources within the Edinburgh and Corinth Conservation Easement Tracts in Saratoga County. The public comment period is open until June 10th as the agency looks to protect natural resources in those areas and provide recreation opportunities for residents.
Saratoga Man Rescued By Rangers In Essex County
A Saratoga man was rescued by forest rangers on Gothics Mountain in Essex County. The 53 year old man was missing and twelve Rangers and volunteers from the Adirondack Climbers’ Coalition joined the search. The man was found about two miles from the Roaring Brook trailhead and 21 Rangers assisted with the carry out as state police hoisted him to safety. The hiker was taken by Saranac Rescue to the hospital.
GlobalFoundries Expansion Plans
The expansion project for GlobalFoundries is continuing to make progress. The company will be expanding their Malta campus and are set to purchase an 800-acre lot in the Luther Forest Technology campus. WTEN reports
The money for the land is expected to come from federal funding. Officials said there is no time table for when the construction on the expansion will be completed.
Construction Draws Closer For New Clifton Park Town Center
Construction is set to begin on the new Town Center in Clifton Park. According to WNYT, the new park will be built on 37 acres between Moe Road and Maxwell Drive Extension, and just north of Shenendehowa Central School District property, in the Exit 9 area, incldu9ing parking lots off Maxwell Drive Extension and Moe Road, a paved trail through the property, decorative lighting, and an open, grassy area.
Caffe Lena Marks 62 Years
Caffé Lena in Saratoga Springs hosted its first “Sing in the Streets” festival on Sunday, and invited the community to come celebrate its 62nd year in business. There was plenty of music, but each site in Caffé Lena’s historic downtown neighborhood also featured photographs and memorabilia for each decade the venue has been in operation, reports WNYT.
More Free Formula And Diaper Exchanges Being Planned By Saratoga Groups
The Palette Members of Saratoga Springs held a free formula and diaper exchange Sunday afternoon and they plan to host this event every Sunday as long as it’s needed. WNYT reports Christine Hernandez, owner of Allo Saratoga, partnered with two other entrepreneurs for Sunday’s event.
