Saratoga Springs is ready to get out and clean up the community on Earth Day. WNYT reports the city is hosting an Earth Day event on April 22, including a call to action for local citizens to volunteer and help pick up garbage and litter from the front of their homes and the right of way areas. The event wraps up with a community cleanup event in Congress Park from noon until 2 p.m.
STR Public Workshop In Saratoga
A fourth public workshop hosted by the Accounts Department is happening April 25th in Saratoga to continue the discussion
about short term rentals. Saratogians interested in discussing short-term rentals and potential changes necessary to address the short-term rental market are encouraged to participate that day at the Saratoga Springs City Center from 6 to 8 pm.
Openings At The Track
The Oklahoma Training Track at historic Saratoga Race Course will open for the 2023 season on Monday, April 17th. The Saratogian reports the Oklahoma barn area will open to licensed trainers and staff beginning Saturday, April 15. The Whitney Viewing Stand, which overlooks the Oklahoma track, will be open to the public free of charge on Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays beginning Friday, April 21 from 7 a.m. to 10 a.m.
Two Arrested In October Death Of 19 Month Old In Amsterdam
Arrests have been in connection to the death of a 19-month-old child in October 2022. On Tuesday, Kristen L. Burke was arrested and charged with Manslaughter, Assault, Criminally Negligent Homicide, and Endangering the Welfare of a Child. On Thursday, Christina A. Kalaza was arrested and charged with Endangering the Welfare of a Child.
Kim Announces He Will Run Again For Mayor In Saratoga
The official kick off event is coming next week, but Saratoga Springs Mayor Ron Kim says he will run for another term. The Democrat formally announced his candidacy Thursday afternoon. Kim filed his petitions last week – he says with 63% more signatures than necessary.
One Dead In East Greenbush Fire
A person has died in an East Greenbush fire. According to WNYT, The fire broke out at 148 Columbia Turnpike – Hanley Mobile Home Park – around 3:30 Thursday afternoon. Several homes were damaged, said investigators, and the body was found in the home where the fire started. No word on the identity of the victim.
Saratoga Sustainability Fair At Skidmore
The Saratoga Sustainability Fair is back for 2023. The Saratogian reports Sustainable Saratoga and Skidmore College are partnering once again to host the 2023 Saratoga Sustainability Fair from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Sunday, April 16 at Skidmore College, located at 815 North Broadway in Saratoga Springs.
Siena Poll On Residents’ Satisfaction Living In NY
A recent Siena College poll reveals 70% of respondents said they are happy that they live in New York. That leaves 30% that wish they lived somewhere else. On crime safety, those polled are almost evenly split, with 51% saying they feel safe from crime and 49% saying they somewhat or don’t feel safe. More than 70% rated the state as either excellent or good on the availability of leisure activities.
Ballston Spa Concerts In The Park
The Ballston Spa Business & Professional Association has announced the 2023 Ballston Spa Concerts in the Park lineup. The free concerts run every Thursday between June 29 and August 24 from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. at Old Iron Spring Park. The first three shows in the lineup: June 29: Ballston Spa Community Band, July 6 : The North & South Dakotas and July 13: The Protones.
Two Troy Men Found Guilty Of Murder
Two Troy men were convicted of killing another man in 2020. Nashone Pinn, 23, and Eric Stroud, Jr., 20, were found guilty of Murder and Criminal Possession of a Weapon. WTEN reports officials said they killed Zeandre Domingo in August 2020. Their convictions are part of the Gun Involved Violence Elimination cases being pursued by the Rensselaer County District Attorney’s Office.
