In what may be the most telling sign that GlobalFoundries plans to build a new fab, the company has purchased the entire Luther Forest Technology Campus. According to WNYT, in a deal formally announced Thursday, the chip-maker adds roughly 1,100 acres to its footprint in Malta and Stillwater.
Galway Man Who Failed To Return U-Haul Truck Charged With Grand Larceny
State Police of Clifton Park arrested Peter D. Duffy, 56, of Galway, NY for Grand Larceny. Late last month, Troopers received a complaint that a U-Haul vehicle was rented and never returned. The investigation determined Duffy rented the vehicle from a Clifton Park Business in January 2023 and failed to return it on the agreed-upon date or provide payment to extend the rental agreement. Duffy was given multiple opportunities to return the vehicle but failed to.
Duffy was arrested at his home.
Two Face Charges After Moreau Traffic Stop
State Police of Wilton arrested Renee E. Barrett, 52, of South Glens Falls, NY, and Erick J. Talback, 54, of Glens Falls, NY, both charged with Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance. Their vehicle was pulled over in the area of Saratoga Road in Moreau. Neither Barrett nor Talback possessed a valid driver’s license. Further investigation discovered felony-weight narcotics in the vehicle. Both were arrested and transported to the Saratoga County Correctional Facility without bail.
Hochul Announces Conceptual Budget Agreement
Nearly a month after its April 1 due date, New York state lawmakers have approved a conceptual budget agreement. WNYT reports Hochul said, “I know this budget process has taken a little extra time, but our commitment to the future of New York was driving this,” said Hochul. “What was important is not a race to a deadline, but a race to the right results.” The $229 billion budget includes big investments in gun violence prevention, mental health care and abortion access.
Greenfield Man Faces Charges Following Alleged Screwdriver Incident
State Police of Saratoga arrested Kile W. West, 28, of Greenfield for Criminal Possession of a Weapon, Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance and Menacing. On April 21, 2023, at about 7:47 p.m., Troopers responded to a home on Stone Church Road in Milton for the report of an altercation during which West allegedly brandished and threatened the use of a screwdriver against a victim. Police say a glass pipe with residue was found on West as he was taken into custody.
Saratoga Arts Receiving Grant
Governor Kathy Hochul today announced over $42 million has been awarded through the New York State Council on the Arts to 144 small and medium-sized capital projects. This record capital investment in arts and cultural organizations across the state supports crucial building renovations, accessibility improvements and new spaces for creative work. Saratoga Arts Inc is receiving 766 thosuand dollars under the grants.
Waldorf School To Close High School
Citing “low enrollment over a number of years and a need to refocus energies on developing other programming,” the Waldorf School of Saratoga Springs announced it will close its high school after the completion of this school year. The Saratogian reports the independent, private learning institution plans to re-brand itself to focus on serving pre-K to eighth-grade students.
Law Enforcement, Rescue Personnel To Prepare For Mass Casualty Incident At SPAC
There’s a big event this weekend at SPAC, and you won’t find on it on the LiveNation calendar. It’s a simulated concert in which there’s a simulated mass casualty incident. According to WNYT, State Park Police, State Police, Saratoga Springs Police Department, Saratoga Hospital and Albany Medical Center are all taking part. They represent all the agencies needed in the event something awful should happen at SPAC.
Utica Men Plead Not Guilty In Saratoga Shootout Incident
Three Utica men pleaded not guilty during their arraignment Tuesday morning for their involvement in an officer-involved shooting on Broadway in Saratoga Springs last November. WNYT reports Alexander Colon, Darius Wright and Christopher Castillo all face attempted assault charges. An off-duty sheriff’s deputy from Vermont, Vito Caselnova, is already charged with attempted murder.
Council Passes Resolution To Restrict No-Knock Warrants
Saratoga Springs City Council has passed a resolution to restrict no-knock warrants.
It bans the Saratoga Springs Police Department from initiating no-knock warrants under any circumstances to search residences for controlled substances. In addition, the SSPD may initiate these warrants only in other extreme cases — where officers detail specific facts in the search warrant application that explain why giving notice would create imminent danger to a person’s life.
