Volunteer Firefighter Recruitment Effort

Volunteer fire departments across New York state will open their doors to residents Saturday, April 22 and Sunday, April 23 as part of the 14th annual RecruitNY weekend. The Saratogian reports RecruitNY is a major initiative of the Firefighters Association of New York (FASNY) designed to help increase volunteer membership in local fire departments.
The past several years have been challenging for volunteer fire departments throughout New York, and many are faced with decreased membership and increased call volume.

Shelters Of Saratoga Looks To Extend Code Blue Shelter

Shelters of Saratoga are looking to extend the season for the city’s Code Blue shelter on Adelphi Street . WRGB reports the group’s lease ends at the end of April, and they plan to extend as far as they can into that date. According to officials, the shelter has been at full capacity since the beginning of the season, with 61 people a night.

Contractor Accused Of Scamming Customers Turns Himself In

On Thursday, New York State Police in Clifton Park arrested James R. Larkin, 57, of Wolcott, Connecticut. Larkin, the owner of BluView Windows of Albany, was accused of scamming multiple customers. Investigations determined that between October 2021 and July 2022, Larkin allegedly collected over $35,000 in deposits and/or payments from multiple residents for agreed-upon contracted work. Larkin never conducted any of the contracted work or returned the money to the victims.

Saratoga Sports Bar To Be Featured On Show

A local sports bar will be featured on “America’s Best Restaurants.” The West Side Sports Bar & Grill in Saratoga Springs will host a visit from the show on April 11, reports WNYT. The show will highlight popular dishes and interview owner Dave Harmon about the restaurant’s special place in the community since it opened on Congress Street in 2005.

Track Season Passes On Sale

Season passes for the Saratoga Race Course are officially on sale. WNYT reports you can pick up a pass, which provides admission for all 40 days of the summer meet, including Travers. Travers Day advance general admission is $25. Through the end of May, the pass will cost you $75. The price will go up to $85 on June 1, followed by $95 in July. The summer racing meet at Saratoga runs July 13 through Labor Day.

SP Clifton Park Arrests Man For Unlawful Surveillance

State Police of Clifton Park arrested 20 year old Bryan M. Constanzo of Albany for Unlawful Surveillance. On February 18, Troopers received a complaint that a victim was privately recorded without their knowledge or permission while at a location in Albany. The investigation determined Constanzo recorded the victim in a compromising situation without requesting their permission or getting their consent. Constanzo was arrested at SP Clifton Park and processed. He was issued an appearance ticket returnable to the Albany City Court on April 7, 2023.

Corinth Getting State Grant Money For Wastewater Treatment Upgrade

More than $70 million in financial assistance for water infrastructure improvement projects has been distributed across New York State. The Environmental Facilities Corporation Board of Directors has approved low-cost financing and previously announced grants, authorizing municipal access to the capital needed to get shovels in the ground for drinking water and sewer projects that reduce potential risks to public health and the environment. Village of Corinth in Saratoga County – $12,423,597 long-term interest-free financing for wastewater treatment plant replacement and collection system rehabilitation.

Pedestrian And Bike Safwety Project Getting Underway In Saratoga

Governor Kathy Hochul has announced that work is getting underway on a $5.7 million project to enhance pedestrian and bicyclist safety along Union Avenue in the City of Saratoga Springs. The Complete Streets project will add a new sidewalk and bike lanes to this vital roadway, which serves as a gateway to the city’s vibrant downtown area and the historic Saratoga Race Course. Union Avenue will also be resurfaced as part of the project.

Schumer Talks Firefighters Grant Program

Senator Chuck Schumer was at the Glens Falls Fire Department Tuesday to announce his plans to save the Assistance to
Firefighters Grant Program and Staffing for Adequate Fire and Emergency Response Program. WNYT reports the programs have provided nearly $1 million to Warren and Washington County fire departments in just the past three years. He is rallying support to pass the Fire Grants and Safety Act in the Senate by the end of this month to save these programs.

Chick-fil-A Opening Day In Clifton Park Draws Closer

It’s getting closer to an opening day for Chick-fil-A in Clifton Park . WRGB reports the Town says the chicken restaurant franchise has been given the “green light” to begin construction back in September of 2022.
The location in mind is 304 Clifton Park Center Road, a former Pier One store location. Phil Barrett, the Clifton Park Town Supervisor says that they expect the restaurant to open May 1st.
