Community Development Projects Receive Federal Funding

Rep. Paul Tonko recently announced 15 community development and improvement projects across New York’s 20th Congressional District that he submitted to the House Committee on Appropriations in a bid to bring direct federal investment to the region under the Fiscal Year (FY) 2024 Community Project Funding process. Southern Saratoga YMCA is among the entities receiving funding.

Schuylerville Woman ID’ed As Washington County Shooting Victim

A Schuylerville woman was shot and killed Saturday night after the car she was in pulled into the wrong driveway looking for a friend’s house. The Daily Gazette reports 65 year old Kevin Monahan, who lives at the home there, is charged with murder.
Sheriff’s officials identified the woman killed as Kaylin A. Gillis, 20, of Schuylerville. Monahan is accused of firing at the car as it went to leave the property.

Stefanik Campaign Released Quarterly Finance Report

A new quarterly campaign finance report Elise Stefanik’s campaign filed Saturday with the Federal Election Commission, shows her campaign raised nearly $1.12 million in the first quarter. The five-term incumbent’s campaign spent $713,612 in the 1st quarter, and had $1.3 million on hand, as of March 31.

Hoosick Falls Man Charged In Jewelry Store Robbery

Stephen E. Shuler, 47, of Hoosick Falls, was arrested on Friday by Hoosick Falls Police. They say that he robbed a jewelry store in the early morning hours of Monday, April 3. WTEN reports police sent out an alert seeking help from the public to identify the person who robbed Hoosick Falls Jewelry. They say that he used a hammer to break a window and steal over $800 worth of jewelry. Shuler was arrested and faces burglary and criminal mischief charges.

Clifton Park To Hold Restaurant Week

The town of Clifton Park is ready for its first restaurant week. According to WNYT, it will be held Monday, April 24 through Sunday, April 30. During the week, the town will showcase the dining around town and hope to create business for local restaurants.Participating businesses will offer breakfast and/or lunch specials for $15.
Dinner specials will be $25 or $35 dollars per person.
Participating restaurants include La Fiesta, Peddlers Bar and Bistro, Sushi Prime 88, Ravenswood, and many more.

Earth Day Being Marked In Saratoga

Saratoga Springs is ready to get out and clean up the community on Earth Day. WNYT reports the city is hosting an Earth Day event on April 22, including a call to action for local citizens to volunteer and help pick up garbage and litter from the front of their homes and the right of way areas. The event wraps up with a community cleanup event in Congress Park from noon until 2 p.m.

STR Public Workshop In Saratoga

A fourth public workshop hosted by the Accounts Department is happening April 25th in Saratoga to continue the discussion
about short term rentals. Saratogians interested in discussing short-term rentals and potential changes necessary to address the short-term rental market are encouraged to participate that day at the Saratoga Springs City Center from 6 to 8 pm.

Openings At The Track

The Oklahoma Training Track at historic Saratoga Race Course will open for the 2023 season on Monday, April 17th. The Saratogian reports the Oklahoma barn area will open to licensed trainers and staff beginning Saturday, April 15. The Whitney Viewing Stand, which overlooks the Oklahoma track, will be open to the public free of charge on Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays beginning Friday, April 21 from 7 a.m. to 10 a.m.

Two Arrested In October Death Of 19 Month Old In Amsterdam

Arrests have been in connection to the death of a 19-month-old child in October 2022. On Tuesday, Kristen L. Burke was arrested and charged with Manslaughter, Assault, Criminally Negligent Homicide, and Endangering the Welfare of a Child. On Thursday, Christina A. Kalaza was arrested and charged with Endangering the Welfare of a Child.

Kim Announces He Will Run Again For Mayor In Saratoga

The official kick off event is coming next week, but Saratoga Springs Mayor Ron Kim says he will run for another term. The Democrat formally announced his candidacy Thursday afternoon. Kim filed his petitions last week – he says with 63% more signatures than necessary.
