Saratoga Mayor Looks To Address Systemic Racism History

The mayor of Saratoga Springs is working to acknowledge what he calls a history of systemic racism. According to WNYT,
Mayor Ron Kim wants to pass a resolution Tuesday night that would apologize for past racial injustices in the city.
It would also establish a restorative justice panel in the city.

Price Chopper Issues Grated Cheese Recall

Price Chopper and Market 32 is issuing a voluntary recall of pics brand grated cheese. The recall is in effect for all pics grated cheese purchased since December 2022. The cheese is being recalled because it does not meet Price Chopper Market 32 standards. The store says there are no harmful side effects from the cheese but customers can return them to their local Price Chopper Market 32 for a full refund.

Saratoga Voices Concert At Skidmore

Saratoga Voices will hold a French choral concert on May 13 at 4 p.m. in the Zankel Music Center at Skidmore College. According to the Saratogian, the concert showcases 19th and 20 century composers and more than 40 instrumentalists will take part. Historic Homes Tour Schedule Set

The Saratoga Springs Preservation Foundation’s spring Historic Homes Tour kicks off on Saturday, May 13, giving those the opportunity to see the interiors of private historic homes on the East side of the city. The Saratogian reports the event will be held between 10 a.m. and 4 p.m. Three private residences on Circular Street will be featured as well as a condominium in the Stone Abbey, 125 Circular St., and Circular Manor Bed & Breakfast at 120 Circular St.

Report: Monahan Will Question Bail During Thursday Court Appearance

The man accused of shooting and killing Kaylin Gillis of Schuylerville, Kevin Monahan, will be in Warren County Supreme Court this Thursday. He’ll be in court for a writ of habeas corpus hearing. That’s a hearing in which someone held in custody challenges why they’re being held in jail. WNYT reports Monahan’s attorney Kurt Mausert argued in that bail hearing the judge should have allowed Monahan to post bail and that remanding him is unwarranted.

Firefighters Vote No Confidence In Chief

The city of Saratoga Springs may soon have a new fire chief after the union holds a no confidence vote. WTEN reports they claim Chief Joseph Dolan repeatedly failed firefighters, and the community at large. Nearly 90 percent of members said they had lost confidence in their chief in a vote held over several days by the Saratoga Springs Professional Firefighters Association, Local 343.

Man Charged With Shooting, Killing Schuylerville Resident Due In Court

Kevin Monahan, the man accused of shooting and killing Kaylin Gillis, will be in Warren County Court Thursday. WNYT reports Gillis, 20, of Schuylerville, was riding in a car that was turning around in Monahan’s driveway in Hebron, Washington County, when Monahan allegedly shot at the car, and killed Gillis. Monahan is charged with second-degree murder.

Grants Announced For Urban And Community Forestry Projects

Governor Hochul announces $3 Million in grants are now available for Urban and Community Forestry Projects.
This new grant funding will increase the health of community forests and strengthen local community forestry programs. A free web-based information session about this grant will be held on Thursday, May 4, at 10 a.m at https://meetny.webex.com. The first half will be about the grant requirements and the second half about how to navigate Grants Gateway.

Report: GlobalFoundries Buys Luther Forest Technology Campus

In what may be the most telling sign that GlobalFoundries plans to build a new fab, the company has purchased the entire Luther Forest Technology Campus. According to WNYT, in a deal formally announced Thursday, the chip-maker adds roughly 1,100 acres to its footprint in Malta and Stillwater.
