DEC has announced an agreement that commits Saint-Gobain and Honeywell to implement the new water supply for the Hoosick Falls Village Water System, with an estimated cost of $10 million. The agreement also holds the companies accountable for $30 million in past costs incurred by state taxpayers as well as $5 million in natural resource damages (NRD). The companies remain responsible for determining the extent of site-related contamination from historic industrial operations, including on-site disposal of PFOA’s at the McCaffrey Street facility in the village of Hoosick Falls.
New Subpoenas Issued In Saratoga Civil Rights Matter
New subpoenas have been issued by the New York State Attorney General’s Office in connection to its investigation into alleged civil rights violations in Saratoga Springs. WRGB reports one is for testimony of a police lieutenant over data collection methods. The other is to expand the AG’s investigation to include actions taken by city officials and police against protesters from January 1st 2020 to present day.
Fire In Wilton Residence Leaves Home Uninhabitable
Fire crews are investigating a house fire Wilton that took place on Gordon Lane Thursday afternoon. Crews said no one was injured but some animals may have died. WTEN reports the house was declared unfit to live in. The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
Saratoga Bar Owners Joining Forces To Stave Off Trouble
Saratoga Springs bars are increasing efforts to keep troublemakers out. WNYT reports the first thing they’re doing is using an app that helps all the bars to instantly communicate with one another when someone’s causing a problem. They say a trespass letter signed by all the bars would prevent people like those involved in the shootout from stepping inside any of the bars again or be arrested. The operators are set to meet with police and fire departments again on May 17.
Rensselaer County Declares Migrant State Of Emergency
Following an announcement from New York City Mayor Eric Adams’ plan to buss hundreds of migrants to other counties, putting them in hotels, Rensselaer County Executive Steve McLaughlin has issued a State of Emergency. WRGB reports the State of Emergency prohibits any municipality in the county from entering into a contract to house migrants and prohibits any hotel and motel from also entering into a contract to house migrant
Wilton Man Arrested On Child Porn Charges
State Police of Wilton arrested 23 year old Andrew J. Tompkins of Wilton, NY, for Promoting a Sexual Performance of a Child and Possessing of a Sexual Performance by a Child. Tompkins is accused of promoting and possessing images consistent with child sexual exploitation. His arrest followed an investigation and the execution of a search warrant at his home in Wilton on May 5th following a cyber tip from the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children.
Single Day Tickets Go On Sale For The Track
Single-day tickets go on sale Wednesday for this summer’s racing season at the Saratoga Race Course, including reserved seating to the clubhouse, grandstand and cutwater stretch. WNYT reports single-day tickets for reserved tables in the Miller Time Fourstardave Sports Bar, the Pick Six Vodka Picnic Paddock and tailgate at the turn will be available starting Wednesday, May 17. The racecourse opens for the season Thursday, July 13.
New Water System Under Consideration For Hoosick Falls
The village of Hoosick Falls Board of Trustees will consider an agreement for a new water system for residents. The agreement is with Saint Gobain Performance Plastics and Honeywell to fund and construct a new water system in the village.According to WTEN, it comes after both companies were held responsible for PFOA contamination in the village. The company has to pay $65 million in a class action lawsuit.
New Report Contains Good News For Saratoga County Economy
A new report shows the Saratoga County economy is thriving. WNYT reports the Saratoga County Chamber’s insider report finds county sales tax collections are up more than 11% versus this time last year.
Across the county, local hotels also reported a 17% increase in the revenue per available room so far in 2023, versus the same time in 2022.
Saratoga BLM Founder’s Court Case Adjourned To June
The case of the founder of Saratoga Black Lives Matter has been adjourned to next month. According to WNYT, Lexis Figuereo was set to appear in court on Monday. Figuereo is accused of taking a microphone from someone during the public comment portion of a city council meeting back on April 4, pleading not guilty to charges of obstructing governmental administration and disorderly conduct during his arraignment last month.
