New Temporary Homeless Shelter In Saratoga

Saratoga Springs has a new home for people without a home. A new temporary homeless shelter opened on Adelphi Street. Many homeless had been using a parking garage for shelter. A task force is expected to finalize a permanent solution in July. WNYT reports the new facility is run by the nonprofit RISE. There’s space to eat, sleep, do laundry, take a hot shower, and there’s a common area and outdoor space. The facility started with 30 beds, but was full the first night. It’s now sleeping 35 people.

Halfmoon Adds Four Way Stop At Woodin And Stone Quarry Roads

The town of Halfmoon has added a four-way stop at the intersection of Woodin and Stone Quarry roads following a study that raised safety concerns. The Daily Gazette reports the town highway department is asking residents to exercise caution as they get used to the new traffic pattern at the intersection. The four-way stop was added following a five-year study by MJ Engineering and Land Surveying. It was determined that because of sight distance concerns and sight limitations at the intersection, a four-way stop was needed.

Ground Broken On Luther Forest Business Park Project

Ground was recently broken on new business suites at Luther Forest Business Park.
Forest Ridge Development, LLC is behind the project. According to WNYT, the groundbreaking for the 62-acre complex was held during a special ribbon-cutting. White Pines Business Suites is expected to start welcoming tenants this fall, and further construction is planned for the site.

NYRA Keeps Saratoga In Mind For 2025 Belmont Stakes

Saratoga Race Course has hosted some big races through the years. The Travers is the big draw. It was huge in 2015 when Triple Crown winner American Pharoah came to town and lost. WNYT reports However, Saratoga has never hosted a Triple Crown race. That could change in June 2025. Belmont Park is scheduled to undergo a nearly half-billion-dollar renovation starting soon after next year’s Belmont Stakes. It may all depend on how quickly that work moves along.

Gearing Up For Weekend SPAC Shows

With two shows at SPAC this weekend, Saratoga Springs Public Safety Commissioner James Montagnino said he is anticipating larger numbers of people this weekend but doesn’t think there will be any major traffic issues. The Daily Gazette reports the city signed a contract with Live Nation at the last City Council meeting that includes providing an ambulance stationed at SPAC with two additional ambulances on call as needed, along with the city’s usual two full-time ambulances.

Pair Charged After Northway Traffic Stop

36 year old Catherine A. Peacock, 36, of Corinth is charged with criminal possession of a controlled substance and other counts and 47 year old Romere M. Anderson faces similar charges after the pair were stopped on the Northway in Clifton Park. Police say an investigation discovered a defaced handgun, controlled substances, drug paraphernalia, and a large amount of money in the vehicle.

One Saratoga Secures Independent Line On November Ballot

After gathering nearly 1,000 signatures from Democrats, Republicans and those who were not registered in any party but wanted to see a change in local politics, One Saratoga has secured an independent line on the November ballot. The Saratogian reports the party shared this news and endorsed four candidates during a press conference in High Rock Park this week.

Saratoga Man Nabbed With Alleged Stolen Vehicle In Warren County

52-year-old Christopher Cormier of Saratoga has been charged with criminal possession of stolen property following a motor vehicle accident on Graphite Mountain Road June 12. The Warren County Sheriff’s Office received the report of a vehicle crashing over an embankment on Graphite Mountain Road near Old Mill Road in the Town of Hague in which the single vehicle involved had been recently reported as stolen from a residence in the Town of Stillwater.

AG Looking Into Officer Involved Shooting

A shooting death in Saratoga County is now under investigation by the New York State Attorney General’s Office. WNYT reports Anthony Zaremski was shot and killed after opening fire on police officers executing a search warrant at an apartment on Foxwood Drive in Clifton Park back in May. Zaremski shot and injured two Saratoga County sheriff’s deputies.
New York state law requires all civilian deaths involving police officers to be investigated by the New York Attorney General’s Office.

GlobalFoundries Partners With Lockheed Martin

GlobalFoundries hosted a big announcement Monday: a collaboration between two big names, GlobalFoundries and Lockheed Martin. WNYT reports The partnership means that chips Lockheed Martin uses in some of the most sensitive defense and aerospace systems will be made by Capital Region workers.
