Stewart’s is bringing back their ice cream flavor “Funny Cide Pride,” named after the first-ever New York-bred horse to win the Kentucky Derby and wear the iconic Garland of Roses. Funny Cide passed away in July at the age of 23. WNYT reports the flavor will be available in select shops in Saratoga County while it lasts.
Hochul Pledges $230 Million For Albany International Airport Upgrades
Governor Kathy Hochul was at the Albany International Airport Thursday to provide updates on the $230 million she pledged towards airports in upstate New York last year. A total of $60 million will go towards modernizing Albany’s air hub, which is the oldest municipal airport in the entire country, built in 1928.
Halfmoon Man Charged With Trying To Hit Two Children With His Car
A Halfmoon man has been arrested for allegedly trying to hit two children with his car Wednesday night. WNYT reports 30 year old Edward Storms was driving his vehicle recklessly when he intentionally tried to strike the pair of minors in the area of Ocean Spray Boulevard. This happened after Storms and the two juveniles got into an argument, according to officials.
Philadelphia Orchestra At SPAC Saturday For Earth Celebration
The Philadelphia Orchestra will celebrate Earth this Saturday with the performance of a recently debuted composition titled “Vespers of the Blessed Earth” at Saratoga Performing Arts Center. The Daily Gazette reports the piece, aims to reflect — through the use and representation of natural sounds and elements — on humanity’s impact on the natural world. It begins at 7:30 Saturday night.
Brief Power Outage Leads To Race Cancellation At Track
Power returned to Saratoga Race Course, after a brief outage on Wednesday afternoon. WNYT reports National Grid’s website said it was part of an outage affecting 1,165 homes and businesses in the area. At least one race was cancelled.
The outage was caused by a tree that fell in Yaddo Gardens, said utility officials.
New Information On November’s Broadway Gunfight In Saratoga
Prosecutors filed their response Wednesday to a motion to dismiss the charges against Vito Caselnova, the off-duty Rutland County sheriff’s deputy from Glens Falls. According to WNYT Caselnova was clearly the agressor, say police, in video of the November 19th gunfight that played out on Broadway, as he and three men from Utica had a brief altercation, at which point Caselnova pulled his service revolver on the men.
Public Safety Commish Says Proud Boy Members Should Be Charged For Weekend Demonstration
In his four-page report to the Saratoga Springs City Council, Public Safety Commissioner James Montagnino is recommending that Proud Boy members who participated in a demonstration on Broadway in the city Saturday be charged with violating the city code. The Daily Gazette reports around 30 individuals would face a violation of city code 151-1 (A) for not having a permit to hold a parade in the city.
Saratoga County 4-H Branching Out Into New Space
A new chapter of the Saratoga County 4-H program is almost here. A 3,650 sq./ft. facility will be able to transform into three state-of-the-art classrooms. The additional space will allow for more opportunities for 4-H programs and other youth organizations. WRGB reports the Saratoga County 4-H has raised more than $400,000 to break ground on the new educational facility, but they say more donations are needed with the ultimate goal of half a million dollars in order to open by its new school year on October 1st.
Man Accused Of Killing Ex-Wife Pleads Not Guilty
The suspect accused of killing his ex-wife in Schenectady earlier this year pleaded not guilty during an arraignment Tuesday morning. WTEN reports Timothy Taylor is facing several charges, including second degree Murder, accused of killing Tishawn Folkes-Taylor, who was found dead inside a Schenectady home in May. He’s also accused of killing his girlfriend Theresa Gregg in New York City.
Saratoga Mayor Wants More Info On Proud Boys March
Saratoga Springs Public Safety Commissioner James Montagnino has until close of business Thursday to send a report to Mayor Ron Kim regarding a march Saturday by Proud Boy members. According to The Daily Gazette, the report must include, what information was provided to the city police department before, during and after the march, what actions the police department took when it became aware of the march, whether any laws or regulations were violated and recommendations to prevent future instances.
