Hundreds of classic cars are set to take over Ballston Spa this weekend. WNYT reports the 22nd annual “The Way We Were” Car Show is happening Sunday October 13 in Ballston Spa. The event brings in more than 400 cars each year. Organizers are expecting an even-larger turnout this year.
Clifton Park Man Found Guilty In Shooting Death Of Barber
A Clifton Park man has admitted to manslaughter in the death of a barber in Albany. According to WNYT, 19 year old Timmoure Miller pleaded guilty in Albany County Court on Monday. The shooting happened on May 13, 2023. Tyrone Staley was killed. Staley was cutting hair at Village Barber and Beauty on 2nd Avenue in Albany. A 19-year-old man and a 9-year-old boy in the barbershop were also hit, but survived.
Sheriff Issues Statement On Online Threats
The Saratoga County Sheriff shared a message to the community Sunday, following a recent series of online threats that have impacted schools across the Capital Region. Sheriff Michel H. Zurlo’s statement reads, in part, “Instead of reporting an online threat to the police, we’re finding that some people are reposting the threat. While perhaps well-intentioned, this increases our workload exponentially; can have us chasing down leads that don’t need to be chased and take us away from the ones that do.”
Residents Say Strong Odor Coming From Moreau Marijuana Cultivation Site
Tensions are high around a stench coming from a property in Saratoga County and it has residents in a small town upset. Residents said they have growing concerns around marijuana in Moreau. WTEN reports a cultivation farm that’s been harvesting the crop in recent weeks has some neighbors complaining about the strong odor.
Mechanicville Man Charged With Stealing From Business
Mechanicville Police arrested James D. Euber, 32, of Mechanicville on October 1 after an investigation into a theft from a local business. WNYT reports police say Euber is alleged to have conspired with another employee to steal cash and product from the business, with loss from the business exceeding $1,000.
Euber was charged with fourth-degree grand larceny and fifth-degree conspiracy.
Halfmoon Man Draws Long Prison Stint In Drugs And Gun Case
The US Attorney Northern District of NY Office says Anthony Luizzi, 24, of Halfmoon was sentenced on Tuesday to 17.5 years, or 210 months, in prison and payment of a $10,000 fine for gun and drug crimes.
WNYT reports this was in connection with Luizzi’s trafficking of large amounts of fentanyl, cocaine, and methamphetamine, and possession of more than 30 firearms, said the Attorney’s Office.
Walk To End Alzheimer’s In Queensbury
The Alzheimer’s Association, Northeastern New York chapter is hosting its 2024 Walk to End Alzheimer’s – Queensbury on Saturday, Oct. 19 at SUNY Adirondack. Participants may check-in beginning at 9 a.m. with an opening ceremony at 10 a.m. The walk will begin immediately following the opening ceremony.
Saratoga Springs is #17 on the top 20 cities by WalletHub
Finance company WalletHub has released its 2024 Best Small Cities in America study. Among the Top 20 is Saratoga Springs coming in at 17. To determine the rankings, WalletHub looked at more than 1,300 U.S. cities with populations between 25,000 and 100,000. Saratoga Springs was in the 99th percentile with an overall score of 68.36 out of 100.
One death in Glens Falls fire on Fourth St.
The Glens Falls Fire Department confirmed that one person died in a house fire on Wednesday night. The fire broke out just after 9:30 p.m. on Fourth Street. Crews were able to extinguish the flames within a few minutes of arriving to the scene. The cause of the fire remains under investigation but does not appear to be suspicious.
Glens Falls Common Council show opposition to Washington Square
Members of the Glens Falls Common Council are opposed to Chris Patten’s 60-unit “Washington Square” apartment project. In August when the plan was presented, it met with resistance and for many members of the Council, it has not changed. One member said” “People in this community are proud of who we are. And they have a standard for what they want the community to look like”.
