Tuesday Night Tractor Trailer Crash Shut Down Malta Road

A tractor trailer overturned Tuesday night on Old Post Road in Malta, causing a road closure. The rig was the only vehicle involved and no one was hurt, but Old Post Road between State Route 9 and Northline Road was closed for several hours as the truck had to be unloaded and removed from the scene.

Saratiga Springs Man Indicted On Child Porn Counts

Christopher Barry of Saratoga Springs, was recently arrested and arraigned on an indictment charging receipt and possession of child pornography. The indictment alleges that between June 2021 and Jan. 2022, Barry, 41, received child pornography, and, on Feb. 9, 2023, possessed two phones containing child pornography. If convicted, Barry would face at least five years and up to 20 years in prison.

Burnt Hills Man Charged With Using Company Credit Card

A Burnt Hills man is facing charges for allegedly taking advantage of his company credit card. According to WNYT, an investigation showed 44 year old Benjamin Sloan had been using his assigned company credit card to buy gift cards for his personal use. He was released on appearance tickets, and is due in the town of Wilton and Halfmoon courts at a later date

Galway Teen Dies In Crash

A Galway teen has died after crashing his car in the town of Providence. WNYT reports the crash happened around 7:45 p.m. Sunday on Hans Creek Road. 17 year old Tyler Scocc rolled over and hit a tree, investigators said. He was pronounced dead at the scene. No one else was in the car.

Skidmore Names VP For Human Resources

Sarah Delaney Vero was recently named the inaugural general counsel and vice president for human resources at Skidmore College, effective July 10. The Saratogian reports Vero is an experienced attorney and human resources professional, as well as Skidmore’s current strategic Human Resource adviser. Vero began her work with Skidmore in 2008 as outside counsel with the Office of Human Resources, then in 2016, she stepped in as interim Title IX coordinator and became interim chief human resources officer in 2018.

Members Of Restorative Justice Panel Chosen

This past week, all but two members of Saratoga Springs’ new Restorative Justice Panel were announced. The Daily Gazette reports Mayor Ron Kim announced at the City Council’s June 6 meeting that Camille Daniels, who previously co-chaired the city’s Police Reform Task Force, and Saratoga Springs United Methodist Church Pastor Heather Williams will co-chair the panel that will define what restorative justice looks like in 2023. Kim said Daniels and Williams indicated they want to begin meeting sometime in July.

Albany Police Chief Issues Statement In Wake Of Homicides

Albany Police Chief Eric Hawkins issued a statement after an 18-year-old man was killed Thursday and two more men were gunned down early Sunday morning. WNYT reports the statement reads, in part, “I am deeply troubled by recent incidents in our community that have tragically claimed the lives of three young men,” Hawkins said. “Resorting to gun violence to resolve disputes or conflicts is never the answer and has traumatic impacts on lives, families, and our community as a whole.”
All of the shootings remain under investigation.

NYRA Pumping Up Prize Money For New York-Bred Horses

NYRA announced Thursday a new series of purse increases for registered New York-bred horses competing in open company at the upcoming summer meet at Saratoga Race Course, which will run from Thursday, July 13 through Monday, Sept, 4. The Daily Gazette reports the purse for registered New York-breds running in select open-company races will be 30% higher than the purse offered for non-New York-breds.

Saratoga’s All-American Celebration For The Fourth

Saratoga’s All-American Celebration will return to downtown Saratoga Springs this Fourth of July. The Daily Gazette reports the event will include a free concert featuring Big Sky Country and a fireworks show to end the day. Attendees can also register to run in the 17th annual Firecracker4 Road Race, a four-mile-long course that has drawn over 2,500 runners.
