New York’s premier innovation expo got underway in Saratoga Monday, hosting over 500 entrepreneurs, researchers and tech execs in Capital Region. The sold out event is expected to bring in nearly 600 people to the two-day Summit inside the Saratoga Springs City Center.
Saratoga Hospital Conducting Active Shooter Training
Staff at the Saratoga Hospital are undergoing armed aggressor/active shooter training. Presentations and exercises will help staff develop reaction skills in emergencies and times of crisis. According to WTEN, Drills will include a scenario involving a person with a gun at the facilities. Training will be held at locations in Malta, Wilton, and Saratoga. Hospital officials say that the training has been in the works for several months.
South Glens Falls Man Admits To Pharmacy Knifepoint Robbery
A South Glens Falls man has admitted to robbing a pharmacy at knifepoint in 2021. WNYT reports 33 year old Eric J. McIntosh pleaded guilty in Saratoga County Court on Monday to felony first-degree robbery. Police said McIntosh robbed the Rite Aid store on Route 50 in the town of Wilton in June 2021. He stole more than $3,000 worth of medication.
He is scheduled to be sentenced on Dec. 18 at 11 a.m.
Felon Handed 10 Years In Saratoga Attack
A repeat felon was sentenced on Monday to 10 years in prison for punching a man and robbing him on Caroline Street in Saratoga Springs. WNYT reports 53 year old Jose A. Colon, 53, had previously pleaded guilty to the incident last May. Police said the victim was sent to Saratoga Hospital for treatment of a concussion and cuts to his face.
Investigation Into Coach Abuse Of Athletes In Saratoga
The New York State Education Department and Attorney General’s Office are investigating allegations of a systemic culture of abuse toward student athletes by coaches in the Saratoga Springs City School District. According to the Daily Gazette, the investigation comes after a group called Safe Athletics For Everyone (SAFE) filed a wide-ranging legal complaint against the Saratoga Springs City School District arguing that the district didn’t properly address the allegations.
Wrongful Death Case Continues In Saratoga
A wrongful death case from ten years ago continues in Saratoga Springs on Monday. WRGB reports the suit is brought by Darryl Mount’s mother — against the city and the police department. Mount’s death has been scrutinized for years — and the subject of civil litigation since 2013.
Two Capital Region Residents Die In Oneida County Fire
Two people from the Capital Region were killed in an Oneida County fire. WNYT reports the fire happened at a hunting camp early Saturday morning. Joseph Funk, 64, from Gansevoort and Thomas Dingmon, 78, of Middle Grove died. A Fort Edward man was burned. He was flown to Upstate Medical in Syracuse. A Queensbury man was also taken to the hospital.
Shelters Of Saratoga Finds Code Blue Location
Shelters of Saratoga has found a new locations for its Code Blue shelter. WTEN reports 120 South Broadway in Saratoga Springs is the location of the new shelter, with an upgraded 75 beds per night capacity, up from the 61 slots they had last year.
Search Contines For Year Round Shelter Site In Saratoga
Housing advocates are still looking for a place to put a permanent, year round shelter in Saratoga Springs. A temporary shelter that’s run by a nonprofit organization opened in June on Adelphi Street. WTEN reports city leaders formed a task force over the summer to find a more long-term solution. The task force is tentatively scheduled to present possible locations at a meeting next week.
DEC Grant Coming To Saratoga County
DEC has announced more than $1.35 million in grants to six land trusts to help protect local forests. Among the recipients; Saratoga PLAN, Saratoga County: $301,497 to purchase a conservation easement on a 435-acre forested property located in the towns of Greenfield and Wilton, as part of an initiative to protect the 40,000 Palmertown Range.
