Travers Weekend Incurs $25K OT Bill For Saratoga Springs PD

The city of Saratoga Springs had to pick up around $25,000 in overtime for the city fire and police departments during Travers weekend, which also featured a Phish benefit concert at the Saratoga Performing Arts Center. The Daily Gazette reports
Saratoga Race Course saw 48,292 people in attendance on Travers Day and both Phish shows at SPAC were expected to have 20,000 people each. Attendance numbers there were not available.

Vigil Ends Due To Robbery Attempt Nearby

Congress Park was meant to be filled with those celebrating Darryl Mount’s life Sunday. An attempted robbery at the Ben & Jerry’s on Phila Street brought a quick end to the Saratoga Black Lives Matter (BLM) vigil. Organizers said with police arriving in force nearby, they didn’t feel it was safe to continue the event, reports WTEN.

Buying Cannabis Legally In Saratoga

You can now buy cannabis legally in Saratoga Springs. City council approved a Saratoga Springs cannabis farm to start selling on the first floor of the city center parking garage. WNYT reports they’re calling it the Saratoga Springs cannabis growers showcase. The showcase will be open every Sunday and Tuesday from noon to 6.

Reducing Collisions With Low-Clearance Railroad Bridges

New measures are being implemented this week in the Capital Region and Central New York intended to reduce collisions with low-clearance railroad bridges. These new safety enhancements, put in place by New York State Department of Transportation, in a few communities, one them is along Glenridge Road in the Town of Glenville, Schenectady County, where the roadway travels under a railroad bridge with a posted clearance of 10 feet 11 inches.

Saratoga City Clerks Office And Accounts Department Closed Due To Illness

The Saratoga Springs Clerk office and Accounts Department are closed again Friday due to illnesses among employees.
However, the city spokesperson wouldn’t go as far as to say whether that illness was COVID. The Daily Gazette reports
City Communications Coordinator Jessie House said items such as vital records, the issuance of dog licenses and handicapped parking permits will not be available until Monday.

Halfmoon Man Faces DWI Charges

A Halfmoon man is facing charges for allegedly driving while intoxicated with a child under the age of 15 in the vehicle. WNYT reports earlier this month, State Police stopped 53 year old Jamie A. Vasquez on Old State Route 146 in Halfmoon for multiple traffic violations. Vasquez was arrested and transported to the State Police station in Clifton Park, where police said he refused to provide a sample to determine his blood alcohol content.

Father Of Murdered Schuylerville Woman Sues Accused Killer

The father of Kaylin Gillis of Schuylerville is suing the man accused of killing her. The Times Union reports Andrew Gillis is suing Kevin Monahan in Saratoga County Supreme Court for allegedly killing his daughter on April 15. Gillis was a passenger in a Ford Explorer that had mistakenly driven up the driveway of Monahan’s home on Patterson Hill Road in Washington County, when Monahan allegedly came out of his house and fired shots.

Ballston Man Accused Of Setting Apartment On Fire

A Ballston man is accused of intentionally setting his apartment on fire. 27 year old David Fink is charged with arson and reckless endangerment. He allegedly started the fire at an apartment complex on Dominic Drive at about 2:20 a.m. on Tuesday. Fink was located later in the day outside the apartment complex and arrested.

Alleged Killer Of Schuylerville Woman Denied Access To Home

A Washington County judge has denied a request by accused murderer Kevin Monahan to visit his property. WNYT reports
Judge Adam Michelini ruled Wednesday that Monahan, who is accused of shooting and killing Kaylin Gillis of Schuylerville as she was a passenger in a Ford Explorer that had mistakenly driven up his driveway, cannot go to his Patterson Hill Road home.

No Bail in Drug Bust

State Troopers arrested a 40-year-old from Troy following a traffic stop on I-87 on the night of August 24. Bakeim J. Mccall was charged with two counts of criminal possession of a controlled substance in the third degree. WTEN reports during the traffic stop, Troopers discovered that Mccall had felony-weight narcotics. He was processed at SP Wilton and arraigned at the Wilton Town Court. Mccall was remanded to the Saratoga County Correctional Facility without bail.
