A Malta man was arrested twice in one day, including on charges of rape and unlawful imprisonment. Kevin J. Decelle, 34, is facing multiple charges following a domestic incident that happened on Nov. 23 on Schuyler Court in Halfmoon . WNYT reports the same day the victim contacted police to report that Decelle attempted to contact them by phone. Troopers arrested him again for violating the order.
College Of Saint Rose To Shut Down
The College of Saint Rose Class of 2024 will be the final class of students to earn a diploma there. WNYT reports the school’s confirmed in a letter to students and staff that the Board of Trustees voted to shut down the college at the end of spring semester. The school had seen declining enrollment and declining revenues in recent years.
New Budget For Saratoga
During a special City Council meeting this wee, the 2024 Adopted Budget was passed by Saratoga City Council. The Saratogian reports the biggest changes found in the approved budget as opposed to the budget presented on Nov. 8 were the assessment role decreased by approximately $1 million from the amended budget. Additionally, the use of the unassigned fund balance increased by $19,186.35.
The College of Saint Rose in Albany May Be Shutting Down
The College of Saint Rose in Albany may be on the verge of closing. WNYT reports the college has asked for a bailout from the state and the city of Albany as it faces a multimillion-dollar deficit and declining enrollment. Assemblywoman Pat Fahy from Albany serves as the chair of the Higher Education Committee and said the situation is dire, but they are exploring options to save the school.
AG Takes Down Drug Trafficking Ring In Troy
Attorney General Letitia James on Wednesday announced a takedown of a major drug trafficking ring that was selling heroin, cocaine and fentanyl throughout the Capital Region. A total of 25 individuals were indicted in connection with the operation, which was based out of a restaurant, El Coqui, in Troy, from which drugs were sold to a network of customers throughout the region.
Report: Chemical Fire In Clifton Park
Firefighters in Clifton Park were on the scene of a fire in the area of 601 Kinns Road, near Carlton Road Wednesday night. WNYT reports the call came in around 7 p.m., and according to firefighters there were a substantial number of chemicals involved but an exact cause for the fire hasn’t been released.
Fort Edward Man Sentenced In Saratoga County On Drug Counts
47 year old David T. Henderson of Fort Edward, was sentenced to 8 years in prison after being convicted of criminal possession of a controlled substance in the third degree. WTEN reports the Saratoga County Sheriff’s Office arrested Henderson following an investigation into drug deals across multiple counties. A search of Henderson’s car yielded a half kilo of cocaine and fentanyl pills.
Three Businesses Cited In Underage Alcohol Sales Sting
An underage alcohol sales compliance check in Saratoga County. During the initiative 14 businesses were checked . Three failed to ask an underage buyer for ID: Cumberland Farms, 75 Milton Avenue, Ballston Spa, Citgo Yazzy’s Market, 252 Milton Avenue, Ballston Spa, and Union Food Mart, 2 South Street, Ballston Spa.
Man Cops Plea In 156 MPH Crash That Killed Ballston Spa Woman
A New Jersey man has admitted to being drunk and using Snapchat on his phone when he caused a fatal crash last year, killing a Ballston Spa woman. WNYT reports Vasu Laroiya pleaded guilty in Albany County Court on Tuesday to aggravated vehicular homicide. Laroiya had a blood alcohol concentration of .12% and was driving 156 mph, when he crashed his Tesla into Katryn “Katie” Fisher’s Honda Civic on the Northway in Colonie on May 28, 2022.
Mayor’s Task Force on Homelessness Holds Final Meeting
In Saratoga, the Mayor’s Task Force on Homelessness held its final meeting on Monday. The task force was created to help the city determine a location for a permanent low barrier homeless shelter. The final report lists five potential locations for the new shelter and recommends a location over two miles away from the city center.
Mayor Ron Kim created the task force to determine where a permanent shelter should be located and to determine what agency should operate it.
