DEC has announced more than $1.35 million in grants to six land trusts to help protect local forests. Among the recipients; Saratoga PLAN, Saratoga County: $301,497 to purchase a conservation easement on a 435-acre forested property located in the towns of Greenfield and Wilton, as part of an initiative to protect the 40,000 Palmertown Range.
Fall Festival Back In Saratoga
The annual Fall Festival is returning to downtown Saratoga Springs on October 21. The event runs from noon to 3 p.m. with festivities on Caroline Street, extending out on Maple Ave and Putnam Streets.
Visitors are encouraged to dress up in costume and trick-or-treat at participating businesses throughout downtown. The Rotary Club of Saratoga Springs will also hold a Pumpkin Roll on Caroline Street.
Ballston Spa Resident Charged With Animal Cruelty
A 27-year-old Ballston Spa resident was arrested following an investigation into a “dog-at-large” complaint. WTEN reports Alexis L. Hagadorn-Garmley was charged with the misdemeanor of overdriving, torturing, and injuring animals; failure to provide proper sustenance. Police located three dogs in a severe state of malnutrition. The animals are now in the custody of the Saratoga County Animal Shelter and are receiving medical care.
Shen Student Disciplined For Flushing Israeli Flag
A student at Shenendehowa High School was disciplined for taking an Israeli flag from another student and then flushing it down the toilet. According to WNYT, the student forcibly took a small flag from another student’s backpack, which was captured on video. The district on Wednesday confirmed that the matter was investigated and “appropriate consequences” are being rendered per the district’s code of conduct.
Tedisco To Introduce Measure Requiring More Security Cameras In State Parks, Campgrounds
The kidnapping of the 9 year old girl from Moreau Lake State Park has new York state leaders calling for change. According to WNYT, Senator Jim Tedisco plans to introduce a bill that requires state parks, campgrounds, and recreational facilities to have security cameras at all entrances and exits.
Saratoga Book Festival This Week
More than 60 authors will be in Saratoga Springs this week for the third annual Saratoga Book Festival inside the City Center and locations throughout the area. WRGB reports for four days each year, SBF brings writers, book lovers and reluctant readers together for thoughtful conversations, fascinating interviews, book talks, readings, workshops, youth program, and more.
Rock And Oddities Con Set For Saratoga
A new Halloween event is coming to Saratoga Springs. Rock & Oddities Con is set for October 28 and October 29 from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. at the Saratoga Springs City Center. WTEN reports the event features 11 bands, vendors with oddities and curiosities, a haunted maze, a Witches Den, a fire eater, a paranormal experience with investigators from the Travel and Discovery channels, tattoo artists, food, beer, and more.
Northumberland Man Fails To Show In Court To Face Child Rape Charges
A Northumberland man accused of raping a child under the age of 17 didn’t show up for his court appearance on Tuesday. WNYT reports 36 year old Siatar Creech was scheduled to be arraigned on Tuesday in Saratoga County Court on an indictment. A warrant has been issued for his arrest.
Trial Scheduled For Duanesburg Man Accused Of Killing Wife, Son
The trial of a Duanesburg man accused of stabbing his wife and 5-year-old son to death in 2021 is scheduled to begin on Tuesday. Nelson Patino called 911 on Dec. 2, 2021 to tell them that he stabbed his family. A 2-year-old boy survived, reports WNYT.

Planning Board To Hear From Prospective Cannabis Dispensary
The Saratoga Springs Planning Board will hear more during its meeting Thursday from one of two marijuana companies seeking a special use permit to operate a dispensary in the city. According to the Daily Gazette, Excelsior Cannabis, LLC is looking to open up a shop and Reverie 73 NY, LLC is seeking to open a store as well. Excelsior Cannabis is scheduled to appear before the Planning Board Thursday night.
