Saratoga is holding its household hazardous waste collection day, Saturday, November 18, 2023 8 a.m.—12 noon at the
Weibel Avenue Ice Rink. Many home and garden product contain potentially chemicals that may be disposed of safely. These are usually found in basements, kitchens, garages, storage sheds and bathrooms. Only City of Saratoga Residents can participate and only home generated hazardous wastes are acceptable. A New York State driver’s license is required. No Business nor Commercial Licensed vehicles permitted.
Road Rage Incident Near Wilton Mall
A disturbance that happened in the vicinity of Wilton Mall in Saratoga Springs Thursday evening is under investigation. State police have confirmed to WNYT that it was a road rage accident, but further details haven’t been released, except that no weapons were involved.
$30K Grant To Help Restore Historic Home In Saratoga
The Saratoga Springs Preservation foundation recently secured a $30,000 grant for the rehabilitations of 65 Phila St. to restore the historic Alexander A. Patterson house. The Daily Gazette reports $100,000 is still needed by Dec. 15 but the grant will help the foundation begin the project’s final phase. In the upcoming months, contractors and volunteers will finish the porch restoration, install historic windows, complete siding repairs and painting, reinstall the historic front door and develop a landscape plan.
Toys For Toga Kickoff
The Toys for Toga campaign will hold its 11th annual Kickoff Happy Hour on Thursday. The group plans to announce three new partners to pass the 2,600 toys donated last year. Additonally, the Franklin Square Market plans to donate 10% of all grocery purchases to this year’s campaign, reports WNYT. Everyone is welcome to shop during the event Thursday from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m
Seeking Donations For Community Thanksgiving Meal
The Mechanicville Area Community Service Center is looking for donations to help put together their Thanksgiving meal giveaway. The tradition is in its 17th year and brings meals to 1,100 Capital Region families in need, reports WNYT, and they’re looking for donations for any food items such as gravy, stuffing, potatoes and other Thanksgiving staples.
Holiday Lights Contest To Benefit Shelters Of Saratoga
A holiday lights contest will benefit Shelters of Saratoga. Residents are invited to register by donating $100 to the Shelters of Saratoga. Competitors will light their homes for a chance to win one of three prizes, with first prize being a one-night stay at Friends Lake Inn in the Adirondacks. The decorated homes will be shared on Facebook on Dec. 12. People can vote for their favorite house until Jan. 5. The winners will be announced on Jan. 6.
Banned Books Stolen From Little Liberty Libraries In Saratoga
In Saratoga Springs, dozens of banned books have disappeared lately from so-called Little Liberty Libraries on Phila Street and North Broadway. The Daily Gazette reports the youth-focused collection has been run outside of the progressive Unitarian Universalist Church for more than a year now. On Friday, more than 35 books went missing from a Little Liberty Library in the courtyard at Caffe Lena on Phila Street.
Heating Assistance Applications Available Starting Wednesday
The New York State Office of Temporary and Disability Assistance announced home heating assistance applications are available starting November 1 throughout the state. According to ODTA’s press release, the Home Energy Assistance Program can provide low and middle income households up to $976 this winter to keep homes warm at a lower cost.
Code Blue Winter Homeless Shelter Open In Saratoga
The Code Blue winter homeless shelter in Saratoga Springs is open for its 10th season, the Shelters of Saratoga announced on Tuesday. According to WNYT, the shelter is located at the former motel at 120 South Broadway and offers a nightly meal and semiprivate accommodations. It opens when the temperature drops below 32 degrees.
Moreau Man Draws Prison Time In Deadly Crash
A Moreau man was sentenced to 1 to 3 years in prison for leaving the scene of a crash that killed a retired Glens Falls teacher. WNYT reports John Lincoln-Lynch struck Paul Trombley on Main Street in South Glens Falls on Feb. 27, 2022. Lincoln Lynch, 57, had pleaded guilty on Sept. 12 to leaving the scene of an incident without reporting death just as jury selection was getting under way.
