WNYT reports highlights include musical acts Robert Randolph Band and Joan Osborne, plus free family friendly fireworks at 6 p.m. on December 31. The Saratoga First Day 5k will be held on January 1.
10 Year Old Makes Sure Saratoga County Law Enforcement Was Fed On Christmas Day
10 year old Aidan McFarland donated his time and effort and food to law enforcement in Saratoga County for Christmas.
Aidan’s family picked up platters of macaroni and cheese, sub sandwiches, donated baked goods, coffee and donuts, and showed up unannounced at the Saratoga Corrections Facility, Road and Communications Department and the Ballston Spa Police Department. Deliveries were made on Christmas Eve night and Christmas morning.
Stewart’s Holiday Match Raises More Than $2 Million
Stewart’s Holiday Match helped raise more than $2 million for local children’s charities. WNYT reports Stewart’s customers donated more than $1 million between Thanksgiving and Christmas. The company matched it.
The program benefited more than 1,900 local nonprofit children’s organizations last year.
Two Vapes, One Containing Crystal Meth, Confiscated At Saratoga County School
Two electronic cigarettes commonly known as vapes were confiscated from a student in Saratoga County. WNYT reports they were altered, according to Principal Tim Brunson of Burnt Hills-Ballston Lake High School. Brunson sent a letter warning parents of the danger. However, his school was not the one where the vapes were found, he said. Crystal meth was found in one of the devices.
Division Of Consumer Protection Offers Gift Return Tips
The New York Department of State’s Division of Consumer Protection (DCP) is reminding shoppers of New York State laws that protect consumers so they can make informed decisions about holiday returns. Among the tips: Pay Attention to Return Policies, Understand the Refund Terms and Retain Any Proofs of Purchase: Consumers should hold on to receipts in the event a product needs to be returned. If purchasing gifts, ask if a gift receipt is available.
Pair Of Christmas Morning Fires In Rensselaer County
Two Christmas morning fires are under investigation in Rensselaer County. The first fire broke out around 5:20 a.m. at 38 Snyders Corners Road in Poestenkill. The second fire broke out around 8 a.m. at 103 Valley View Avenue in Schaghticoke. No word as yet on causes for those fires.
Audit Finds Lack Of Oversight For Water Fund Ops In Ballston
Officials in the town of Ballston failed to provide adequate oversight of water fund operations, which led to the loss of hundreds of thousands of taxpayer dollars. According to the Daily Gazette, an audit released by state Comptroller Thomas DiNapoli’s office on Thursday found officials did not reconcile water purchased or delivered with water used and could not account for water totaling $300,000. The audit was conducted from January 2021 to Dec. 31 2022.

AG: Former Saratoga County Nursing Home Operator Must Pay Fraud Fines
The former unlicensed operator of a Saratoga County nursing home must pay the state $656,000 for years of fraud and neglect. Chaim Scheinbaum, of Lakewood, New Jersey, operated Saratoga Center for Rehabilitation and Skilled Nursing Care from 2017 to 2021 in Ballston Spa without a license from the state, reports WNYT.
Halfmoon Woman Charged With Stealing $13K From Business
Halfmoon woman is accused of stealing over $13,000 from a business while she worked there. According to WNYT, 42 year old Christine M. Mainville was charged with felony grand larceny. Mainville allegedly modified the business records from September 2023 to December 2023 to account for the missing funds.
