Another Storm For The Area
Another storm will head our way later Tuesday into Wednesday. WNYT reports the storm looks like it will produce mostly rain and could potentially lead to flooding with both heavy rain and snowmelt occurring. There will also be a wind element to this system, especially across the higher terrain.
No Jurors Seated In Monahan Trial
No jurors were seated on Monday as the trial began for the Washington County man accused of shooting and killing a woman who was a passenger in a vehicle that had mistakenly turned around in his Washington County driveway last April. WNYT reports Kevin Monahan, 66, has been charged with second-degree murder in the death of 20-year-old Schuylerville resident Kaylin Gillis.
Cease And Desist For Hospital Plans To Close Birth Center
The New York State Department of Health sent a cease-and-desist letter to Samaritan Hospital, over plans to shut down the Burdett Birth Center, Rensselaer County’s only maternal care unit. WRGB reports Samaritan Hospital has not submitted the required closure plan, but has informed staff that they are no longer recruiting new staff for services at the birth center. They can’t close beds or end services without the approval of the DOH.
Sanghvi To Annouce Senate Candidacy Monday
Saratoga Springs Finance Commissioner Minita Sanghvi will announce her candidacy for the New York State Senate seat in the 44th District on Monday. WNYT reports the 44th Senate District covers all of Saratoga County and parts of Schenectady County.
Car, Snowplow Crash In Ballston Spa
A snowplow and a car collided on Sunday morning. WNYT reports the accident happened around 8:30 outside the Cumberland Farms at Rowland Street and Geyser Road in Ballston Spa. No one was seriously hurt, but the driver of the car was ticketed for following too closely.
State Money For Land Stewardship Efforts
Governor Kathy Hochul has announced $1.8 million in grants to support 27 not-for-profit organizations involved with stewardship of state parks, trails, historic sites and other public lands. Locally, Saratoga Mountain Bike Association ($11,835) to hire a website designer to create a new user-friendly website that brings together function and accessibility as well as new marketing and promotional materials to help increase membership and visibility.
Residents’ Opposition To Solar Farm In Hoosick
A plan to build a large-scale solar farm in the town of Hoosick is not sitting well with some of its residents, and now they’re hoping the town board puts a pause to it. WRGB reports they’re up in arms over Hawthorn Solar’s proposed industrial solar panel project. The New Jersey based company wants to place 50,000 solar panels on a 130-acre plot of land along Pine Valley Road and Fords Road.
Tedisco Wants COVID Nursing Home Deaths Report To Be Released
Senator Jim Tedisco said a report about COVID-19 nursing home deaths should have been released to the public over a month ago. WTEN reports the senator wants the information to be released so that the state can learn from past mistakes. Over 15,000 nursing home deaths are being blamed on a March 2020 executive order by then Governor, Andrew Cuomo, which placed COVID positive-patients in nursing homes.
