Saratoga’s 28th Annual Festival of Trees To Return

Saratoga’s 28th annual Festival of Trees returns to the Saratoga Springs City Center on Nov. 29 through Dec. 3, this year with three special events featuring Santa. The Daily Gazette reports the festival returns with decorated trees, wreaths and other holiday gifts, all for purchase. The proceeds from the event will benefit programs within the Catholic Charities of Saratoga, Warren and Washington Counties.

One Year Since Broadway Shootout In Saratoga

It was one year ago this week that the big shootout on Broadway in Saratoga Springs happened, leaving three people with gunshot wounds and four people under arrest. WNYT reports two of the three men from Utica, Alexander Colon and Christopher Castillo are scheduled to appear in court Tuesday to answer charges of misdemeanor attempted assault.

Test Drive A Bus Day Held In Saratoga

Some school districts struggle to hire enough bus drivers, so Saratoga Springs City School District hosted another Test Drive a Bus Day on Saturday for community members interested in learning more about driving a school bus. WTEN reports the district says around 5800 students depend on some form of transportation for school.

Saratoga County Man Arrested In Stewart’s Shop Attempted Robbery

The Schenectady Police Department arrested 39 year old Scott A. Vanbergen of Saratoga County, in connection with an attempted robbery at a Stewart’s Shop in Schenectady on Friday. Police say the suspect tried to take a cash register, then left in a vehicle and crashed into a vacant house on Summit Avenue. He was arrested a short time later.

Saratoga County Sheriff’s Office Investigating Friday Stabbing

The Saratoga County Sheriff’s Office is investigating a stabbing that happened between two people in Schuylerville on November 17. WNYT reports late Friday afternoon, the Sheriff’s Office said they received a call for a stabbing on Myers Lane.
Investigators discovered that an argument between two people lead to one the other in the neck. The victim was transported to Albany Medical Center for a serious injury.

Community Speaks Up About Proposed Moreau Sewage Plant

Residents in Moreau are protesting plans to bring a sewage sludge plant into their community. A community meeting drew citizens concerned about the impact of the Saratoga Biochar project, which would require the trucking of up to 720 tons of sewage sludge through the town six days a week, reports WRGB.

Firefighters V. Police In Saratoga Charity Ice Hockey Game

On Saturday, the Saratoga Springs firefighters will take on the police in a charity hockey game at the Weibel Ice Rink.
The game is scheduled to begin around 7 p.m. Admission to the game is free with the donation of a new, unwrapped toy. Donations will support the Franklin Community Center’s Holiday Assistance Program.

Report: Suspect, Victim Both Heading To Work When Deadly Crash Happened

The Schenectady man accused of hitting and killing a woman who was walking to work in the town of Ballston, was on his way to work himself in Saratoga. The crash happened near the Valero gas station at the intersection of Route 50 and Brookline Road. WNYT reports 38 year old Gary Lucas hit Meredith Hamilton, who was walking to work at the Valero station. Lucas took off.

Arraignment Set Friday In Moreau Lake State Park Kidnapping Case

The man accused of kidnapping a 9-year-old girl from Moreau Lake State Park will be arraigned on the indictment on Friday.
Information about what the grand jury found will also be released. WNYT reports Craig Ross Jr. was initially charged with kidnapping after police found him and the girl he’s accused of abducting.

ShopRite Stores In Area Closing For Good Saturday

ShopRite locations in the Capital Region will be closing Saturday, three weeks before the original set closing date of December 9, according to employees. WRGB reports on October 20th, Wakefern Food Corporation, the company that operates ShopRite Supermarkets, confirmed plans to close the region’s five stores, located in Colonie, Slingerlands, Albany, Niskayuna, and North Greenbush.
