Report: Troy Woman Admits To Stealing $500K From Employer

A woman in Troy admitted she stole more than $500,000 from her employer. According to WNYT, Debra Powers worked at Cascades Inc. in Waterford and said she used the company credit card over five years to buy things for herself.
She also admitted she avoided paying more than $35,000 in taxes.

Three Face Charges In Saratoga

Three people face charges after police conducted a traffic stop on Hamilton Street at around 3:24 a.m. on Saturday. The vehicle reportedly was traveling without headlights on or illuminated taillights. WTEN reports the driver, later identified as Marquin Blake, 31, of Schenectady, reportedly fled on foot. Officers interviewed the other two passengers and located multiple handguns and 3.2 ounces of crack cocaine. The passengers, Harold Miller, 32, of Albany, and Mushin Butler, 29, of Schenectady, were taken into custody.

Dave Matthews Band Coming To SPAC

The Dave Matthews Band will be making their annual trip to Saratoga Springs. WNYT reports the band will play at SPAC on July 5 and 6. Both shows start at 7:30 and tickets go on sale Friday, February 16.

Pair Arrested In Stolen Car Case In Saratoga County

A call for a stolen car leads to two arrests in Saratoga County. WNYT reports Chantelle Joubert of Corinth and Charlie Dingman of Queensbury, stole the car of someone they know earlier this month, according to the Warren County Sheriff.
Deputies spotted the stolen car on Sunday, and pulled the pair over in Moreau and found drugs in the car.
Both were arrested, and charged with grand larceny and drug counts.

Monahan Found Guilty

Kevin Monahan has been guilty of second-degree murder in the driveway shooting trial. Monahan was accused of shooting and killing 20 year old Kaylin Gillis of Schuylerville, who was a passenger in a car that mistakenly drove up his driveway in Washington County. He was also found guilty of reckless endangerment and tampering. Sentencing is scheduled for March 1 at 9 a.m.

Monahan Attorneys Seek Lesser Charge

The attorneys for the man accused of shooting and killing in the driveway of his Washington County home area asking that the jury be allowed to consider a lesser charge of criminally negligent homicide. WNYT reports 66 year old Kevin Monahan is charged with second-degree murder in the death of Kaylin Gillis last April. Gillis was a passenger in an SUV that had gotten lost in his driveway.

DEC To Hold Hearings On Saratoga Biochar Solutions Project

DEC has released draft air and solid waste permits for public comment for the Saratoga Biochar Solutions, LLC facility proposed for construction in the town of Moreau. The agency also announced virtual and in-person public comment hearings on Feb. 7 and 8 to ensure full consideration of any potential environmental and environmental justice concerns relating to the project.

Mechanicville Woman Arrested In Home Break In

State Police of Clifton Park arrested Jessie L. Smith, 34, of Mechanicville, for Burglary, Robbery, Grand Larceny and Assault.
On January 17 Troopers responded to the reports of a Burglary in progress at a residence in Halfmoon. The investigation determined Smith reportedly entered the home without permission. While in the home, Smith allegedly physically assaulted and injured the victim. Before fleeing, Smith damaged property in the home and stole items.

Siena College Poll Looks At Hochul Favorability Rating

Governor Kathy Hochul has a 45-42% favorability rating, up from 40-43% in November, and the first time it has been positive since it was 46-43% in February 2023. Her job approval rating is 52-43%, up a little from 48-44% in November, according to a Siena College poll of registered New York State voters just released.

30 Year Old Woman Cuffed On Drug Charges In Saratoga

The Saratoga Springs Police Department announced the arrest of a 30-year-old woman after an investigation on the sale of illegal narcotics within the city. The Daily Gazette reports Jennifer L. Duncan of Saratoga Springs was arrested on three drug related charges on Friday. Police obtained a warrant and searched the property, finding more than 1.5 ounces of methamphetamine.
