Saratoga County Undersheriff Jeff Brown formally launched his campaign for sheriff this week. According to WTEN, Sheriff Mike Zurlo endorsed Brown for the role in January when Zurlo announced he wouldn’t seek reelection at the end of his current term.
Wilton Restaurant Ordered Closed By State Health Department
The Moe’s Southwest Grill location in Wilton has been shut down. The restaurant on Route 50 near the Wilton Mall has been ordered to be housed by the New York State Health Department, reports WNYT.
A sign on the door says the property is deemed “unsafe for human occupancy.”
Body Found In Glens Falls Donation Bin
Glens Falls Police are investigating a dead body discovered in a clothing donation bin. WNYT reports officers on patrol around 2:20 a.m. saw the bin in the parking lot of 70 Hudson Ave., and it appeared to be on fire. The fire department responded and put out the fire. The dead person was discovered inside, according to police. No word as yet on the person’s identfity.
Lake George Hike-A-Thon Registration Open
Registration for the Lake George Land Conservancy’s 13th annual Hike-A-Thon opened Monday, March 3. The event, which will be held on Saturday, July 5th, is designed to showcase the Conservancy’s parks and preserves with a series of more than 25 guided hikes around Lake George.

Saratoga’s West Ave. Connector Project highlights a new path from West Ave to the City Limits near Rowland St along the south side of Grand Ave. Of note from the public meeting from Feb 27, 2025, the section from Lee Drive to West Ave will be updated from an 8′ wide multi-use asphalt path to a 5′ sidewalk. Glens Falls Downtown Revitalization Update
Glens Falls received an update Wednesday night on efforts to revitalize downtown. The project received over $48 million to improve the area. WTEN reports Mayor Williams Collins and other officials spoke about the increased need for housing in the city and what they hope to achieve in the upcoming construction season.
They said the project is expected to be completed by Fall 2025.
Malta Man Admits Being High When Vehicle Struck State Trooper, Tow Truck Driver
A Malta man has admitted to being high on drugs when he hit a state trooper and tow truck driver on the Northway in Colonie last year. WNYT reports 41 year old Jason Guerin pleaded guilty to aggravated vehicular assault on Wednesday. Guerin was high on combination of fentanyl and cocaine on Nov. 2, 2024. He swerved off the highway and crashed his truck on the shoulder of the roadway near the Exit 6 and 7 southbound ramp of the Northway.
Northway Traffic Stop Yields 70 Pound Pot Stash
State Police reported the arrest of a Schenectady man after a traffic stop in Malta on Friday. Shaun Zimmer, 49, was charged with first-degree criminal possession of cannabis. WTEN reports on February 28 around 8:20 a.m., troopers pulled Zimmer over on the Northway in Malta. During the stop, State Police searched the car and allegedly recovered around 70 pounds of marijuana from the vehicle.
Saratoga Springs Police Dig Up Nearly Century Old Cold Case Files
The Saratoga Springs Police Department is resurfacing old crime cases dating as far back as nearly 100 years, hoping to preserve them and possibly find new resolutions. WTEN reports nearly 100 years of autopsy reports, detective notes, photographs and staggering mysteries filled the cardboard boxes in the Saratoga Springs Police Department’s record room.
Famed Saratoga Mansion Hits The Market For $25 Million
The famed Palazzo Riggi in Saratoga Springs is on the market once again. WNYT reports the former home of socialite Michele Riggi and her late husband Ron went on the auction block. It sold that year for $7.1 million.
The 19,000 square foot, six-bedroom mansion on North Broadway in Saratoga Springs was listed again this week for $24.9 million.
