Rollin’ Smoke Handcrafted BBQ & Saloon in Halfmoon has closed its doors. The restaurant’s last day was on Saturday, March 8. WTEN reports owners Rob and Amy Carmel announced on Facebook on March 4 that they would be closing the restaurant. March 4 was also Rollin’ Smoke’s five-year anniversary.
Saratoga Considers 25 MPH Speed Limit
Saratoga Springs is thinking about lowering its speed limit to 25 miles per hour. According to WNYT, the plan is to pass legislation over the summer, and implement the new speed limit after the track season, the public safety commissioner said.
Woman Found Dead In Glens Falls Clothing Bin Remembered
The woman found dead in a clothing donation bin in Glens Falls had three children and was known as the life of the party, according to her obituary. WNYT reports 43 year old Michelle McFarren died on Thursday. She was found inside a clothing donation bin that was on fire in the parking lot of a pizza place at 70 Hudson Ave. Her body was discovered after the fire was extinguished.
Long Lake To Be Beneficiary Of Whitney Park Sale
Long Lake town officials announced that the late John Hendrickson, who passed away last August, designated the Town of Long Lake as the sole beneficiary of net proceeds from the expected sale of Whitney Park. Sun Community News reports Whitney Park is a celebrated and historically significant 36,600-acre property that includes 22 lakes and ponds, over 100 miles of undeveloped shoreline, and an historic Adirondack Great Camp.
Area Kids Audition For New York City Ballet Production At SPAC
Dozens of Capital Region children auditioned Sunday to be a part of the New York City Ballet. The ballet accepting 36 children for roles in a George Balanchine production which first premiered at SPAC in 1974. WRGB reports New York City Ballet will perform its full-length production of Coppélia at SPAC on July 9, 10 and 11 at 7:30 p.m. and on July 12 at 2:00 p.m.
Expanded Mental Health Care Unit At Glens Falls Hospital
An expanded unit at Glens Falls Hospital will focus on improving community mental health care. According to WNYT, the hospital recently opened its expanded Crisis Stabilization Unit. The unit now offers 13 beds, improved patient rooms, additional meeting space, safety improvements and more staff.
Agreement Reached In Corrections Strike
An agreement between the State Department of Corrections and the union representing striking prison workers could bring employees back to work Monday morning. WNYT reports thousands of workers began an unsanctioned strike three weeks ago calling for what say they are safer working conditions.
According to DOCCS, the agreement takes effect if at least 85% of staff returns to work.
Historian Tea Talks start March 19

The Saratoga County History Center begins its series of Historian Tea Talks in the Long Room at Brookside Museum, beginning March 19. Tea and cookies will be served. Space is limited, registration is appreciated. There is a suggested donation of $5 for each talk, which may be made online or on the day of the event. Talks take place at 3 p.m.

Glens Falls police are investigating after a body was found inside a clothing bin that caught fire in a parking lot at 70 Hudson Avenue yesterday. Patrol officers saw the fire at approximately 2:21 a.m. No identification has been made. Glens Falls Police are urging anyone with information related to the incident or who was in the area from March 5 at about 9:30 p.m. to March 6 at about 2:30 a.m. to contact them.
Boxley To Lead Saratoga Civilian Review Board
Steve Boxley will now lead the Saratoga Springs Civilian Review Board after Mayor John Safford appointed him Tuesday.
