The Family YMCA of the Glens Falls Area is set to join the Saratoga Regional YMCA as one of its six branches. WNYT reports the Saratoga Regional YMCA said it will launch a $6 million capital campaign to modernize the Glens Falls location. The six branches will serve more than 38,000 people across Saratoga, Warren and Washington counties.
Winter’s Dream not coming back to Lake George
Winter’s Dream won’t return to Lake George this season. The light and sound show was meant to attract tourists to the region. However, Winter’s Dream closed early last year because of the mild winter weather. This is the third winter-themed event in less than three years to leave the village. Ice Castles was a predecessor to Winter’s Dream. It ran for two winters but was also affected by warm winter weather.
Clifton man arrested for assault
A Clifton Park man was arrested on Oct. 11 for assaulting a person near Maxwell Drive. Malik Simms, 19, faces multiple charges. Troopers say on Oct. 11 around 10:54 a.m., a person with multiple visible injuries went into the Clifton Park trooper barracks and reported an unknown man had assaulted them.Troopers say the victim was approached by Simms, who allegedly hit and kicked the victim until they lost consciousness.
Jury Selection for trial of Jacob Krall
The trial has begun for a Saratoga County man accused of assaulting an infant in March 2023. Jury selection is underway in the trial of Jacob Krall. Krall, 21, has been charged with second-degree assault and endangering the welfare of a child in the March 21, 2023 incident. According to police, Krall is related to the victim, but investigators did not say how.
Parking Program hurting small businesses
Paid parking in Saratoga Spring is generating controversy. Small business owners in Saratoga Springs are expressing concern that the paid parking program is enhancing the city coffers, but they are losing money. The city started the parking program in June- a $2 per hour fee charged to park downtown in garages and lots. Business owners and city leaders are discussing the owners’ concerns.
Wings Competition today
The 7th annual Saratoga Wing Off will take place today from 11a.m. to 4 p.m as Saratoga Springs restaurants compete for the title of best wings. Diners will enjoy $2 wing samples at participating establishments and vote online at discoversaratoga.net. for their favorite in two categories People’s Choice and Wildest Wing (for most creative flavor). Awards will be presented at Bailey’s Saratoga at 5 p.m.
Holiday Train To Make Stops Locally
Every year around the Holiday season, a special train makes it way to parts of the Capital Region from Canada, benefitting local food banks and bringing entertainment to the station it stops. The Canadian Pacific Holiday Trail (CPKC) will follow route, making stops in Fort Edward, Saratoga Springs, Mechanicville and Menands, reports WTEN.
Mechanicville Man Facing Grand Larceny Counts
A man from Mechanicville is accused of stealing from a bank. The Saratoga County Sheriff’s Office said 53-year-old Michael Palazzo stole $3,000 from the Adirondack Trust Bank in Malta by cashing a fake check, reports WNYT. He’s charged with grand larceny.
Clifton Park Center Revamp
Clifton Park Center has been seeing a resurgence under new management. Faraz Khan and his development group purchased the mall last year, and they have set out to drastically alter its footprint, reports WNYT. Stores are being moved around, the food court is being revitalized and new tenants are coming in with an eye towards making a more family friendly, worthwhile shopping experience.
Saratoga Business Owners To Meet With Mayor Over Paid Parking
Businesses in the city of Saratoga Springs will be meeting privately with Mayor John Safford on Friday to discuss the paid parking program. WNYT reports the city implemented the parking program in June, and charged $2 per hour to park downtown in garages and lots. The program is a revenue generator for the city, said the mayor, but he is keeping an open mind.
