U.S. Rep. Elise Stefanik is requesting the U.S. Department of Education open an investigation into the Saratoga Springs City School District after the school board recently passed a resolution reaffirming its support for transgender students and athletes. Stefanik calls the resolution a “blatant rejection” of Title IX requirements and a February executive order by President Donald Trump barring transgender students from participating in sports aligned with their gender identity.
Ex-Saratoga Official Charged With Petit Larceny
The Saratoga County Sheriff’s Office responded to an active larceny complaint at the Walmart in Wilton on Saturday at 10:21 PM. WRGB reports following an investigation, 44-year-old Robin Lakian of Saratoga Springs is accused of stealing merchandise from the store. Lakian is former Saratoga Springs Public Safety Commissioner and was arrested for petit larceny.
Two Face Charges After Saratoga County Police Pursuit
Two people are facing multiple charges after a chase last week in Saratoga County. State Police saw a vehicle driving erratically on April 17 around 12:15 a.m. in the area of Northway in Clifton Park. A pursuit ensued after which the driver, 49 year old Peter J. Antenucci of Waterford and his passenger, 35 year old Nichole Nozkowski of Rensselaer, ran away on foot. They were quickly arrested and are charged with criminal possession of a controlled substance.
Community Rallies Around Residents Affected By Shooting Incident
In the wake of a deadly police-involved shooting at the Ellsworth Commons Apartments, community members are coming together to support affected residents. Police reported that officers were forced to shoot a man earlier this month after he pointed a BB gun at them during a response to a domestic violence call. The incident resulted in a bullet striking a water pipe, causing flooding in several units. WRGB reports in response, the community hosted an “Easter Basket Donation Drive and Giveaway” for residents of Building Two.
CDTA To Discuss Changes To Saratoga County Service
The Capital District Transportation Authority will be holding two public meetings this week to discuss changes to its FLEX service and Route #117 in Albany and Saratoga counties. The meetings will be held on Monday and Wednesday. WTEN reports on Wednesday, CDTA will propose to remove the town of Stillwater from the Southern Saratoga FLEX zone.
Ballston House Fire Under Investigation
The Burnt Hills Fire Department responded to Devils Lane Sunday evening for a for a report of a structure fire.
According to WNYT, officials said they received a 911 call around 5 p.m. from a passerby who saw heavy smoke coming from the home. Once crews arrived on the scene, they saw heavy fire and called for a 2nd alarm. About half a dozen fire departments responded to the scene with firefighters getting the flames under control in about 45 minutes.
A Ballston Spa man is accused of causing damage to car
A Ballston Spa man is accused of causing major damage, slashing a person’s tires and using a car jack to damage the front windshield and rear window. James R. Meade, 26, allegedly drove to LaQuinta Inn & Suites on Route 9 in Queensbury to confront a male acquaintance, according to the Warren County Sheriff’s Office.
High speed chase across NY results in driver being arrested
A high-speed chase involving multiple law enforcement agencies concluded with the arrest of two suspects following a series of events that spanned two days across New York. The chase continued into Warren County, where the State Police took over. Troopers deployed a tire deflation device, stopping the vehicle on Interstate 87 in Lake George. They identified the driver as 24-year-old Onyx Calderon of Paterson, NJ.
Food drive in Glens Falls collected $1,000 to help fill a van with needed items
A food drive in Glens Falls is supporting local veterans. The Pines at Glens Falls Center for Nursing and Rehabilitation held its 5th annual food drive in support of the Veterans & Community Housing Coalition. The event raised more than $1,000, organizers said. They filled an entire van with food and household donations for the VCHC veterans’ food pantry, which serves homeless and at-risk veterans and their families throughout our area. All donations go directly to VCHC, a nonprofit based in Ballston Spa
Glens Falls woman arrested for dispencing meds that were unsafe
A Glens Falls woman is accused of giving out medication that had been tampered with at an ARC chapter in Saratoga County, according to the Saratoga County Sheriff’s Office. The 46-year-old woman has been charged with first-degree endangering the welfare of an incompetent or physically disabled person, a felony, and making a false written statement, a misdemeanor.
