Baseball Bat Attack Trial Begins

The trial of the man accused of beating his neighbor to death with a baseball bat started Monday, with jury selection. According to WNYT, Pharrin Greene is charged with manslaughter, accused of causing the death of Bernard Rogers in Ballston Spa. Rogers was hit in the head with a metal baseball bat, according to investigators. That caused a traumatic brain injury and a lacerated liver. He died a year after that attack.

Halfmoon Woman Allegedly Violates Protection Order

A Halfmoon woman is accused of violating an order of protection. WNYT reports deputies responded to a residence in the town of Clifton Park just after 3 a.m. on Monday for a domestic incident. 39 year old Megan H. Tatum, 39, allegedly damaged property belonging to the victim and was charged with aggravated family offense and criminal contempt.

2024 Saratoga Giant Pumpkinfest

The Saratoga County Chamber of Commerce will present the 2024 Saratoga Giant Pumpkinfest on Saturday, Sept. 28 in downtown Saratoga Springs. The event will be held from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Saratoga Springs City Center parking garage. Attendees will have the opportunity to marvel at giant pumpkins – some over 1,000 pounds – and watch the official weigh-off, which begins at 11 a.m.

Lake George Restaurant Week In Full Swing

Lake George Restaurant Week is happening until September 14. Participating restaurants will be serving three-course prix-fixe meals for $35 a person. WTEN reports The week’s theme is “tailgate,” and each restaurant week menu features at least one item to match the theme. The event is presented by the Lake George Regional Chamber of Commerce & CVB.

Ballston Spa CSD Athletics Director Dies

A longtime member of the Ballston Spa Central School District community has died, according to a message from the superintendent. WRGB reports Dave Sunkes, the district’s director of health, physical education and athletics, reportedly served the district for more than two decades.

Man Sentenced In Halfmoon Restaurant Robbery

The man who robbed Mi Mexico Lindo Tienda y Taqueria in Halfmoon in November was sentenced to eight years in prison for first-degree robbery on Friday. Jesus Antonio Menendez-Flores pleaded guilty to the charge on Monday, July 22. WTEN reports Menendez-Flores entered the grocery store and restaurant wearing a ski mask around 4:25 p.m. on Saturday, November 11, 2023. Several customers detained Menendez-Flores said he was armed, but did not display a weapon.

Malta Woman Facing Assault, Weapons Charges

The Saratoga County Sheriff’s Office arrested Carmela M. DiCicco, 43, of Malta on Friday for assault and criminal possession of a weapon. WNYT reports Officials say they responded to a fight-in-progress call in Malta on Friday at 1:34 p.m. Investigation led to the arrest of DeCicco, and she is accused of intentionally causing physical injury to someone else, using a deadly weapon or dangerous instrument.

New Police Station being considered in Saratoga Springs

Saratoga Springs is exploring building a new police station to replace its current home in the basement of City Hall, headquarters for nearly 150 years. Said city Public Safety Commissioner Tim Coll “it’s clear that we need to plan for a new police station, and that’s what the Capital Budget is for” The city has two possible locations, one behind City Hall where the city employees park or the old Senior Center.

Man sentenced after pleading guilty to second degree murder of girlfriend

The Saratoga Springs man who admitted to killing his ex-girlfriend was sentenced on Thursday to 23 years to life in prison. Sebastian Mabb, 31, pleaded guilty in Saratoga County Court in June to second-degree murder in the death of Brianna Craig, 25, in February at her Saratoga Springs home. Craig had an order of protection barring Mabb from contacting her because of a history of domestic violence.
