25 year old Jacob L. Merchant of Malta was arrested by the Saratoga County Sheriff’s Office for failing to report a change of address within 10 days as a sex offender. WNYT reports the Sheriff’s Office says Merchant was arraigned in Malta Town Court and remanded to the Saratoga County Jail without bail pending further action in the matter.

Estate Of Man Killed In Saratoga County Sheriff’s Raid Sues
The estate of a man killed during the execution of a search warrant last summer by Saratoga County Sheriff’s deputies is also suing the department and several named deputies for use of excessive force in violations of the Fourth and 14th amendments of the U.S. Constitution. The Daily Gazette reports the lawsuit was filed by James Knox of Hacker Murphy LLP, who is representing Amber Gaccione, the administrator of Anthony J. Zaremski’s estate. Knox is also the attorney representing Zaremski’s girlfriend, Kyla Brothers, in her lawsuit against the department for the use of excessive force.
Multi-Building Fire Reporter In Green Island
Multiple fire departments were fighting a structure fire in Green Island Thursday night. WRGB reports a second alarm went out for the fire on Paine Street, which neighbors say began around 9:30 p.m. They say at least three buildings have been affected. Paine Street was closed to traffic. No word on a cause or injuries.

Lawsuit Filed Over Saratoga City Official’s Legal Fees
The city of Saratoga Springs is now facing a lawsuit after approving to pay $60,993 in private legal fees racked up by one city official. WRGB reports the lawsuit was filed by Michael Brandi, Chairman of the Republican Saratoga Springs Republican Committee, and it’s seeking to stop the city from making payments to cover Commissioner of Accounts Dillon Moran’s exorbitant legal bill.
Report: Saratoga Police Officer Was Reaching To Remove Keys When Dragged By Driver
The Saratoga Springs police officer dragged by a vehicle during a June 19 traffic stop was reaching in to remove the keys from the car’s ignition when the woman behind the wheel allegedly stepped on the gas and took off, reports the Daily Gazette.
34 year old Theresa H. Travis of Greenfield was charged with assault, along with reckless endangerment and criminal impersonation.
Cheering For Charlie Benefit In Saratoga Raises $60K
Sunday’s Cheering for Charlie benefit at King’s Tavern in Saratoga Springs drew a huge total. Charlie Bernath is two-and-a-half years old and has leukemia and her little sister, Lucy, has gastroparesis and can’t keep food down. Both have feeding tubes. WNYT reports the event raised $60,694 to benefit the Bernath family.
Court Date Set For Driver In Deadly Waterford Crash
The teenager arrested in connection to a deadly crash that killed another teen in Waterford is due in court later this month.
WNYT reports 18 year old Everhett Hatlee will appear in Waterford Town Court on July 25. Court documents reveal Hatlee was smoking marijuana before the rollover crash on Fonda Road that killed Kiera Ebert, 14. Hatlee was arrested on several charges, including vehicular manslaughter and aggravated DWI with a child less than 16.
Hochul Waives Summer Fees At State Parks Swimming Pools
Governor Kathy Hochul kicking off July in a big way with a new campaign encouraging families to “Get offline, Get outside.”
WRGB reports all summer fees associated with swimming pools at state parks, including the Saratoga Spa State Park, are waived. She’s also launching the Connect Kids to Swimming Instruction Transportation Grant program to help with transportation to swimming lessons as part of the NY SWIMS initiative.
Truck Crashes Into Christian Science Church In Saratoga
A truck crashed into the Christian Science Church at 107 Circular St. in Saratoga Springs on Sunday evening, damaging the building. The Daily Gazette reports there was one minor injury to a person in the vehicle. The church rents space out to The Beagle School, which uses it for its two-year-old program, which does not operate in the summer months.
