Halfmoon Man Accused In Stabbing

A Halfmoon man is accused of stabbing a person. According to WNYT, 32 year old Fredy A. Brizuela-Santacruz was allegedly in a fight just after 11:30 p.m. on Wednesday at the Vosburgh Road Mobile Home Park, according to the Saratoga County Sheriff’s Office. Brizuela-Santacruz knew the victim, who was taken to Albany Medical Center for treatment.

BLM Sues Saratoga

Black Lives Matter Saratoga is claiming in a federal lawsuit that the city of Saratoga Springs infringed on its rights during social justice protests. WNYT reports the 98-page lawsuit filed Wednesday in U.S. District Court comes on the heels of a report from the attorney general slammed the way the city handled the demonstrations, including arresting members of the organization.

Track Season Opens Thursday

The 2024 Saratoga Race Track schedule will begin on Thursday, July 11th and conclude on Labor Day, September 2nd. After the four day opening weekend takes place, live racing will be Wednesday through Sunday. All of this will take place as such except for the closing week, which will be the week of Labor Day.

Siro’s Cup Takes Place Wednesday Night

The 31st annual Siro’s Cup took place Wednesday night to benefit the Center for Disability Services Foundation. The event serves as the kickoff to the Saratoga horse racing season, which begins on Thursday. Hall of Fame trainer Bill Mott received the 2024 Siro’s Cup Award.

Mechanicville Man Sentenced For Sex Crimes

A Mechanicville man has been sentenced for several sexual assaults with a child. WTEN reports 32 year old Ryan Jewett sexually assaulted a 9-year-old girl in Mechanicville. He will now spend the next 29 years in jail on multiple counts, including rape. He is also charged with trying to meet with a 13-year-old girl for sex in Albany County last year.

Man Facing Charges After Threatening To Kill Father

A man is accused of threatening to kill his father in Saratoga County. According to WNYT, Ethan Chase broke into his father’s home on Centerline Road in Providence and threatened to kill his father, so his father shot him in the shoulder with a shotgun. Chase was arrested Monday and charged with burglary, criminal contempt, and criminal mischief – all felonies.

Gillibrand Backs Biden

Senator Kirsten Gillibrand says she is sticking behind President Biden’s decision to continue his reelection campaign.
WRGB reports Gillibrand points to Biden’s record over the last four years, saying the infrastructure bill, semiconductor manufacturing and the lowering of prescription drug prices are all reasons she’s supporting President Biden, saying she believes he can do more in the next four years, too.

NYRA Hosts Food Preview Event Ahead Of Track Summer Meet

The summer meet at the Saratoga Race Course begins on Thursday. The New York Racing Association gave fans a little taste of the food that will be served at the track this summer. WTEN reports NYRA hosted a food sampling event at the track on Tuesday. Officials said they are expanding the options this year to accommodate fans who have different dietary restrictions.

Ribbon Cut On New Saratoga Springs Fire Station

The Saratoga Springs Fire Department opened a new fire station on Tuesday. WTEN reports a ribbon cutting was held at Station 3, which is located on Henning Road just off the Northway. The station will house the Saratoga County HAZMAT truck and the city’s reserve ladder truck. The station will have six, full-time staff members.

Albany Police Seek Gunman After Deadly Shooting

The search is on for a suspect in a deadly shooting Tuesday evening in Albany. A 21-year old man was shot to death while sitting behind the wheel of an SUV in a Stewart’s parking lot and the alleged gunman was seen running across Delaware Avenue. No word as yet on the identification of the victim, nor on a motive in the case.
