The investigation into now multiple fires in the village of Broadalbin within two days this week resulted Thursday in a person of interest being taken into custody, reports the Daily Gazette. Firefighters Thursday morning responded to three more fires, one at a Railroad Street warehouse, the St. Joseph’s Catholic Church and outside the Adirondack Country Store.
Those fires came two days after fires in the front and back of the Broadalbin First Presbyterian Church.

Attorney E. Stewart Jones Disbarred
E. Stewart Jones Jr. was disbarred on July 18, 2024, after the Appellate Court accepted his application to resign from law practice. WRGB reports court documents state that Jones admitted misappropriating client funds, mingling, and improperly bookkeeping while serving as an attorney at the E. Stewart Jones Hacker Murphy, LLP in Troy, one of the most recognized law firms in the Capital Region.
Two Arrested In Hoosick Falls For Drug Sales
The Rensselaer County Sheriff’s Office announced the arrest of two people from Hoosick Falls after a drug sale investigation. Jacen Blair, 46, and Rebecca Gorman, 33, are both facing multiple charges. WTEN reports on July 12, deputies executed a search warrant at a home on Scott Street in Hoosick and found just over two and a half ounces of fentanyl and cocaine, as well as packaging materials, scales, cash and a .22 caliber rifle.
EF-1 Tornado Confirmed In Edinburg
The damage from Tuesday’s storms in Edinburg, Saratoga County was caused by a combination microburst and an EF-1 tornado. WNYT reports part of the town remained shut down Thursday as the Saratoga County Sheriff’s Office and dozens of volunteer firefighters did welfare checks. Officials hope to end the county’s state of emergency Friday but crews need to make sure it’s safe first.
Ballston Spa Police Department HQ Tour
The Ballston Spa Police Department is now calling 78 Thompson St. its new home, a facility that’s more than double the size of the space it had in its previous Bath Street location. Village residents are encouraged to stop by and check out the new department on Saturday between 11 a.m. and 2 p.m. There will be remarks from officials prior to guided tours kicking off around 11:30 a.m.
Saratoga County Extends Emergency Order Relating To Asylum Seekers
Saratoga County extended its Emergency Order 38 recently. WRGB reports it states that New York City “has no plans” to transport the asylum seekers the City “relocated to other Counties” with “no guarantee of continued financial support for these individuals,” while Saratoga County “does not have the capacity or resources” to “sustain a significant increase in its population.”

Saratoga County remains under a state of emergency due to significant storm damage, but that hasn’t stopped community members from coming together to lend a helping hand. The storm took down power lines and trees, leaving many community members without power.
Groundbreaking On Troy Mixed-Use Development
Governor Kathy Hochul today announced the groundbreaking for City Station North, a mixed-use development that totals nearly 175,000 square feet in downtown Troy along Congress Street and Sixth Avenue. The four-story building will consist of 87 one- and two-bedroom apartments, 40,000 square feet of Class A office space, 154 parking spaces, and a host of building amenities.
CVS Manager Accused Of Placing Recording Device In Bathroom
A manager at the Guilderland Avenue CVS in Rotterdam has been arrested, accused of placing a recording device inside the employee bathroom. The Daily Gazette reports police recovered the device after an employee spotted it and inspected it prior to using the bathroom. Arrested in the case was Ahmad N. Ahmed, 25, of Schenectady, who faces one count of second-degree unlawful surveillance.
Work Crew Encountes 14 Foot Boa Constrictor
As crews worked over the weekend to repair a water main break in the Tivoli Preserve, they were met with a long 14 foot visitor. A 14 foot boa constrictor, slithered it’s way out of the woods and onto the construction site back on Friday.
The officials from the Department of Environmental Conservation were called in to capture and move the massive snake.
