A Saratoga Springs City Court judge has dismissed the charges filed against Jamaica Miles, a leader of Black Lives Matter and a Schenectady School Board member. WNYT reports Miles was charged with unlawful imprisonment and disorderly conduct following a protest last July. The judge said video taken that day shows Miles with those protesters, but she was not the most culpable, simply the loudest.

A popular restaurant in Saratoga Springs has closed its doors for the last time. Farmers Hardware opened in the Spa city five years ago, reports WNYT. Owners say the combination of the pandemic and the birth of the first child has led them to decide on the restaurant’s closure. Sunday was the last day of service.

Saratoga Springs woman is accused in a burglary to the office building of the Paddock Apartments in Wilton. WNYT reports 27 year old Kayla Kelsey is accused of stealing items and damaging property. Kelsey was arraigned, and is due back in court at a later date.

The Saratoga County Chamber of Commerce is celebrating the success of its “Save Our Locals” $20.21 campaign. WNYT reports consumers were encouraged to shop locally, spend more than $20.21, and submit their receipts for a chance to win over $6,000 in gift card prizes. At the close of the campaign, people spent more than $172,000 across the county and submitted 2,000 receipts.

NXIVM co-founder Nancy Salzman has had the start of her jail time delayed. According to the Times Union, Salzman was scheduled to report to a federal prison camp in West Virginia next week, but will now start serving her time on February 21. A judge approved the request from Salzman’s attorney. Salzman was sentenced to three and a half years behind bars after pleading guilty to racketeering conspiracy in 2019.

Governor Kathy Hochul Sunday updated New Yorkers on the state’s progress combating COVID-19, saying we’re seeing the number of cases and hospitalizations continue to decline, but we are not out of the woods yet with this winter surge. She continues to encourage New Yorkers to get vaccinated and boosted and tested. More than 51,000 residents tested positive for COVID 19 on Saturday.

A Saratoga man is facing a slew of drug charges. WNYT reports authorities arrested 33-year-old Thomas McCall in Albany on Wednesday. Officers say they found LSD, crack cocaine, fentanyl, crystal meth and ecstasy pills on him. He was sent to the Albany County Jail.

A man was found dead in the Town of Charlton after the Saratoga County Sheriff’s Department requested help from Forest Rangers in a search for a 33-year-old missing for approximately 24 hours. Two Forest Rangers searched the woods with negative results. The next morning Forest Rangers were joined by members of the Saratoga County Sheriff’s Department, and others. That afternoon, a Forest Ranger-led crew found the subject’s body. Responders packaged the body in a wheeled litter and turned him over to the coroner. The Sheriff’s Department is the lead agency for the investigation and does not suspect foul play.

The Saratoga County History Center’s “Preserve the Porch!” was a rousing success.
In November and December of 2021, the campaign yielded an impressive $20,720.00.
Moreover, an anonymous donor graciously agreed to match funds up to $10,000.00, making the
total amount raised $30,720.00.
The funds will go directly to replacing storm windows and repairing Brookside Museum’s iconic
front porch.

Police say a drunk Schenectady driver got his car stuck at a railroad crossing in Halfmoon Sunday morning and it was soon hit by a passing train. The Daily Gazette reports no injuries from the 5:45am incident Sunday morning on Tabor Road. 36 year old Kevin McGinn, the driver, was intoxicated, say police, as well as driving without a required interlock device.
