Criminal Counts Pending In Gas Leak

A gas leak in Voorheesville is now a criminal investigation. According to WNYT, an investigation revealed the gas line supply to the dryer that caused the leak was intentionally damaged by the owner. The homeowner is being treated at Albany Medical Center, and being evaluated for mental health issues, but authorities say criminal charges are pending.

Saratoga’s Spongy Moth Invasion

One neighborhood in Saratoga Springs is seeing a moth invasion. WTEN reports many properties in the Geyser Crest development are covered in hundreds of invasive spongy moths. The spongy moth is a non-native insect from France which feeds on the leaves of a variety of trees, especially oak; leaving them bare.

Sitterly Road Bridge Work

Scheduled to coincide with summer break, the Sitterly Road Bridge in Clifton Park will be closed starting on June 18. The bridge was struck by construction equipment last year, and it needs to be replaced, reports WNYT, and the temporary span over the Northway will be removed and parts of the old bridge will be demolished. Then a new bridge will go up.

NJ Man Faces More Charges In Crash That Killed Ballston Spa Woman

A New Jersey man is now charged with aggravated vehicular homicide and manslaughter. According to WNYT, Vasu Laroiya was driving drunk and speeding when he crashed into the back of another car in Colonie last weekend. The other driver, Katryn Fisher of Ballston Spa, was killed. Police say Laroiya had a previous conviction for DWI.

‘Cars On Union’ Coming To Saratoga

A first-time event called Cars on Union is coming to the Spa City on Father’s Day weekend, amid a full season of special events hosted by the City of Saratoga Springs and its partners. According to the Saratogian, Cars on Union is scheduled for 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Saturday, June 18 along Union Avenue, between Nelson and East avenues, in Saratoga Springs.

Mechanicville Man Charged With Attempted Murder

A Mechanicville man has been arrested after a shooting in May. The incident took place on Hudson Avenue in the city of Albany. According to WTEN, 18 year old Tyler Burns was charged with Attempted Murder in the Second Degree and Criminal Possession of a Weapon Last month, police were called to the 400-block of Hudson Avenue for a reported shooting, where a 20-year-old man was found with a non-life threatening gunshot wound and police believe Burns was the person who shot him.

Court Hearing For Ballston Spa Man In Drive By Shooting

A Ballston Spa man was in court Wednesday for a hearing on a drive-by shooting. According to WNYT, 36 year old Michael Green is accused of shooting from a moving SUV at a home in Colonie in April 2020. There were kids inside the house at the time, but no one was hurt. Green has pleaded not guilty to the charges.

New York’s Sports Wagering Numbers

New York State state has generated over $267 million from sports wagering since January 2022. Mobile sports wagering accounted for $263 million since January 8, and sports wagering at New York’s four commercial casinos made up $4.3 million of total revenue since July 2019. According to reports, New York has collected more in sports wagering revenue in five months than the total revenue any other state has generated over several years.

Saratoga Man Drowns In Hudson River

A Saratoga Springs man drowned on Memorial Day in the Hudson River. 50 year old James Mittler was pulled from the river in Lake Luzerne, but later pronounced dead at Glens Falls Hospital. According to WNYT, it all started around 11:30 a.m. when bystanders near Bay Road heard a child in the water yelling for help. Two people helped the child, but then they found out a man had been underwater for several minutes. By the time Mittler was pulled from the water it was too late.
