State Police are currently investigating a fatal motorcycle accident that occurred on I-87 in the town of Malta. At approximately 7:47 a.m. on June 8, 2022, the New York State Police responded to a fatal crash involving two motorcycles on I-87 north in the town of Malta, between exits 11 and 12. Preliminary investigation determined that 38-year-old Laura B. Covarrubias of Glenmont, was operating a 2021 Kawasaki motorcycle northbound in the middle lane when she moved to the left lane and struck Raymond Suen, 47, of Schenectady. Suen was operating a 2009 BMW motorcycle. Covarrubias then lost control and exited the roadway striking a guiderail. Suen and Covarrubias had been traveling together at the time of the collision.
Covarrubias was transported to Saratoga Hospital where she was declared deceased. Suen was uninjured in the crash.

State Police Warn Of Scam Targeting Elderly
A warning from the New York State Police: beware of scams targeting older people. Callers are claiming to be a family member and may have an illness or may have been arrested. WNYT reports the caller will put urgency on helping them and not to contact other family, or the caller claims to be law enforcement, saying your Social Security number or bank accounts have been “compromised”. They then ask personal information to “verify” the identity.

Sunday afternoon at the Impact Athletic Center in Halfmoon, a youth basketball tournament referee was attacked by a player, say police. WNYT reports the IAABO Local Board 36, of the International Association of Approved Basketball Officials is looking into what happened and State Police are as well.
State Cannabis Control Board Sets Pot Packaging Rules
The state Cannabis Control Board is looking to ensure that pot pacakging wont be appealing to people under 21 when recreational marijuana hits store shelves. Recently, the panel approved draft packaging and marketing regulations that detail the kinds of packaging that would be prohibited. They also set up minimum standards for packaging and labeling and sets out penalties for violations. For instance, the packaging can’t use cartoons or bright neon colors or any references to toys or games that would appeal to the younger set.
Man Pleads Guilty In Halfmoon Child Abduction
A guilty plea from aman accused of breaking into his ex-wife’s home, chasing her with a hammer and abducting their son has pleaded guilty in Saratoga County Court. Authorities say in May 2020, Nivaldo Oliveira broke into his ex-wife’s apartment in Halfmoon to abduct their 6-year-old child. The child and Oliveira were eventually found in Albany. The child was not hurt.
Man Charged In Caroline Street Halloween Stabbings
A 23 year old man is in the Saratoga County jail, charged with two stabbings on Caroline Street. Police say it happened back on Halloween after a fight inside a business and resulted in two people being taken to the hospital. WNYT reports Tyler Lumia is charged with assault and criminal possession of a weapon.
Memorial Day Enforcement Results In More Than 13,000 Tickets Statewide
New York State Police handed out more than 13,000 tickets during Memorial Day weekend. Police set up sobriety checkpoints, beefed up DWI patrols and ticketed distracted drivers. Troopers arrested 213 people for DWI and investigated 808 crashes, reports WNYT.
Hundreds Of Cockroaches Released In Albany City Court
In Albany City Court Tuesday, hundreds of cockroaches were released and charges have been filed. WNYT reports
The court says four people were being arraigned when authorities say a defendant began recording inside, a fight ensued and the roaches were released from plastic containers. 34 year old Clyanna Lightbourn faces several charges, including disorderly conduct and tampering with physical evidence.

South Glens Falls Man Charged In Knife Attack
A South Glens Falls man is facing felony charges, after police say he attacked another man. According to police, the victim had an order of protection against Michael Cook. The two were involved in a fight and Cook came at the victim with a large knife. In an effort to protect himself, the alleged victim ended up with cuts on the hand.
Cook was arrested, and sent to the Saratoga County Jail.
