Malta Man Charged With Drug Trafficking

A Malta man has been arrested for alleged narcotics trafficking. The Saratoga County Sheriff’s Office said 42 year old Arthur Martin was arrested after the execution of a search warrant. According to WTEN, his arrest is the result of a lengthy drug trafficking investigation in Saratoga County. Martin was arraigned in Milton Town Court and remanded to the Saratoga County Jail in lieu of $5,000 cash bail, $10,000 bond.

Governor Kathy Hochul activated the State Emergency Operations Center in Albany Tuesday where staff from multiple State Agencies and the Office of Emergency Management were working together to coordinate requests for assistance from local governments following the late winter storm that dumped heavy, wet snow in upstate regions, leaving 195,000 households without power and causing travel issues during Tuesday’s morning commute. The largest impacts were to the Southern Tier and parts of the Capital Region, Mohawk Valley and North Country.

Gillibrand Backs Baby Food Bill

U.S. Senator Kirsten Gillibrand is pushing for legislation to limit levels of toxic metals in baby food. According to WNYT, the push comes after a congressional investigation into many top-brands. Exposure to heavy metals can disrupt infant development and may cause a variety of health issues and the “Baby Food Safety Act” would limit the amount of lead, mercury, arsenic and cadmium in baby food by putting strict requirements on manufacturers.

Work On Clifton Park Bridge This Week

The Sitterly Road Bridge in Clifton Park is closed through Friday as part of the span is replaced. The bridge was struck by construction equipment last April and the work is being done while schools in the area are on spring break. Detoursare up in the area.

Halfmoon Man Pleads Guilty In Custody Escape Case

A Halfmoon man who pleaded guilty to injuring a police officer while trying to escape custody was sentenced Monday morning in Saratoga County Court. According to WNYT, Duane McEwan was sentenced to five years in prison in connection with the incident a year ago during a traffic stop near Mohawk Commons. McEwan was arrested for possession of cocaine, struggled with the officer and took off from the crime scene.

Report Of Shots Fired Probed By Saratoga Springs Police

Saratoga Springs Police officers were recently called to the Holiday Inn at 232 Broadway for a report of shots fired Saturday night. The Saratogian reports the caller was a guest in the hotel and reported having heard what he believed to be a gunshot in the rear of the hotel a short time before calling the police. The caller also reported a vehicle was involved in the incident, but it had left the area just after the shot was heard. Responding officers checked the rear parking lot of the hotel and found both a spent handgun casing and broken glass in the area the witness pointed out.

There is some confusion over the upcoming “Van Gogh: The Immersive Experience” art exhibit. According to WNYT, if you have tickets for the show in Schenectady or plan on buying them, the Better Business Bureau has waved some red flags about Fever, the company selling the tickets. Man’s Body Found In Glens Falls

Glens Falls police are hoping to learn more about what caused the death of a 37-year-old man found Friday morning on a sidewalk on William Street. WNYT reports police were called to find the man lying just off the roadway. Detectives say there were no obvious signs of injury, and they are awaiting results of an autopsy and toxicology tests.

Grounded: Get Down To Earth In Saranac Lake Event

The Saranac Lake Area Chamber of Commerce is hosting the second annual community event called “Grounded: Get Down To Earth In Saranac Lake.” The month-long event is meant to highlight all the great activities the Saranac Lake area has to offer during what is typically seen as an undesirable season (“mud season”). The event will start with a “kick-off” 5K Run/Walk on May 7th at Riverside Park in Saranac Lake. New Partnership Between GlobalFoundries And PsiQuantum

A total of $25 million in federal funding will spur a new phase in the partnership between GlobalFoundries and PsiQuantum in a step toward building a quantum supercomputer. The Saratogian reports the funding, included in the state budget, will expand research and development spearheaded out of the Air Force Research Laboratory in Rome, New York (Rome Lab), to manufacture and test photonic quantum computing technology.
