Leaders from the Saratoga Regional YMCA and Saratoga Senior Center broke ground on a joint capital project on Tuesday that will create an intergenerational community hub dedicated to health and wellness. According to the Saratogian, the $8.2 million initiative will add approximately 38,000 square feet to the YMCA’s West Avenue facility, including a 14,500-square-foot new home for the Saratoga Senior Center.

The State Department is confirming the death of a U.S. citizen in Ukraine who is believed to be only the second American to have been killed in the conflict there. Authorities say 53 year old Stephen Zabielski lived in Amsterdam unitl 2018. The department did not provide a date or the circumstances of his death

A new sign is causing a stir in Saratoga Springs. It’s hanging from a fence on Putnam Street, and it reads “Future Home of Darryl Mount Park.” WNYT reports a spokesman for the property owners calls the sign a “hoax” and says there are no plans to put a park there.

Police in Albany are investigating an incident that left an officer and a suspect injured Monday afternoon. It started as a domestic and as a 54 year old man was being taken into custody for outstanding warrants, he stabbed an officer, at which time another officer shot the man. The officer who was stabbed is recovering from a wound to his bicep. The officer who fired the shot was placed on administrative leave, which is department policy. The suspect will survive

A suspect in a deadly South Glens Falls hit-and-run is due in court on Tuesday. According to WNYT, John Lincoln Lynch from Moreau has been charged with leaving the scene of an accident in February, killing 67-year-old Paul Trombley.
Trombley was a retired Glens Falls teacher and coach who was hit and killed while crossing the street near his home.
He was originally scheduled to appear in Saratoga County Court on April 18.

A $30,000 bond issued for a 20 year old woman charged with slashing a man on Caroline Street in Saratoga. Police say Dimeiry Ortiz-Lopez of Ballston Spa cut a 51 year old man during a road rage incident. The injuries are not life threatening.
Police arrested the suspect for Assault With Intent to Cause Serious Physical Injury, a felony and Criminal Possession of a Weapon. Ortiz-Lopez was arraigned and taken to Saratoga County Jail.

The Saratoga County Board of Elections and the City of Saratoga Springs announce that the Recreation Center at 15 Vanderbilt Avenue is an early voting site for the 2022 June Primary Election.

Department of Public Works Commissioner Jason Golub announced that the installation of new storm water infrastructure is underway on Clement Avenue near the City’s North Side playground. The storm water project will solve historic flooding issues that occur during major rain events and the spring time snowmelt. Funding for the project comes from the City’s capital budget in a dedicated line for storm water improvements and the work should take two to three weeks.

Saratoga County Sheriff Michael Zurlo recently announced Sheriff’s Deputies, New York State Police, New York Park Police, New York Environmental Conservation Police and town of Stillwater Police together will step up enforcement on waterways in Saratoga County this summer. The Saratogian reports officials urged boaters to choose a designated operator when out on the water, just as they would a designated driver when going out on the town.

A man from Ballston accused of strangling a woman went before the judge on Wednesday and ended up back behind bars for lack of bail. According to WNYT, Todd Axton was arraigned Wednesday afternoon on a 13 count indictment after police were called to a Burnt Hills home in late March to investigate Axton’s alleged strangling of a woman he wasn’t supposed to have contact with.
