Sarasota Springs passes resolution for DEI

The Saratoga Springs Board of Education has passed a resolution re-affirming its commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion in the face of increasing federal crackdowns on DEI policies. The Saratoga Springs City School District Board of Education passed a resolution Thursday titled “Affirming our Support for Every Student” in a 7-1 vote with one abstention.
Workers from Uncommon Grounds, a popular coffee shop chain in the Capital Region, gathered in front of their Saratoga Springs location to announce their union campaign. Employees from both the Clifton Park and Saratoga Springs stores are joining forces to advocate for improved working conditions. Their campaign focuses on better health and safety policies, fair wages, and upgraded equipment.

A 24-year-old Glens Falls man, Matthew Benway, has been arrested multiple times in the past week, facing a series of charges including menacing, criminal possession of a weapon, burglary, and criminal contempt. Benway was first arrested on March 25 on an active warrant, two more arrests on March 28 and 29 for incidents of obstruction, trespassing, and violating an order of protection. He is being held at the Warren County Correctional Facility on $5,000 bail as he awaits further court proceedings.

Community Block Party In Lake George

The Village and Town of Lake George are bringing back their highly popular Community Block Party on Saturday, May 17. Sun Community News reports a street fair will take place on Montcalm Street and Ottawa Street in the Village of Lake George with proceeds benefiting local non-profit organizations.

SSPD Seeks Info On Jewelry Store Theft Suspects

Saratoga Springs Police are looking for help to find three people in connection with a theft at a local jeweler. WNYT reports the theft happened on Feb. 8 at deJonghe Jewelry on Broadway. Arrest Made In Connection To Daycare Center Incident

An arrest has been made in connection with an incident at a local daycare center. According to WNYT, 72 year old Helen Oprencak has been charged with endangering the welfare of a child after she pulled a child, who refused to lie down for nap time, by the hood of their sweatshirt, holding them down until they went to sleep, the Warren County Sheriff’s Office said.

New Wilton Mall Owner Reveals Plans

Ferraz Khan purchased the Wilton Mall last Thursday for 25 million dollars, he now has revealed part of his massive renovation plan for the mall. Khan spoke at a Wilton Town Board meeting Thursday night on the renovation project, saying he already has seven tenants that are expected to open up their businesses in the next eight months.

Ballston Spa Mayor Seeks Money For Public Projects

Ballston Spa Mayor Frank Rossi Jr. has suggested the village borrow up to $10 million through bonding to pay for some of the $12.5 million in projects coming down the pipeline. The Daily Gazette reports the projects would include money to demolish and build a new Public Works Department garage, make water tower repairs and renovate Village Hall, the courthouse and parks and pool upgrades.

Greenfield Man Leads Police On Chase

A Greenfield man is accused of leading police on a chase in a stolen vehicle. The incident happened on Oct. 24, 2024. Michael P. Allen, 42, drove through the towns of Greenfield and Corinth in a car later reported stolen, reports WNYT. Allen also caused damage to the vehicle. Former Congressional Candidate To Hold Town Hall In Moreau

Blake Gendebien is no longer running for Congress in the 21st Congressional District this year, but he’s still meeting with voters. WNYT reports he is still holding an already planned town hall this Friday, April 4.
The town hall is taking place at 6 p.m., Friday, April 4, at Moreau Community Center. You don’t have to live in South Glens Falls or the town of Moreau to attend.

Ballston Spa Man Receives Sentence For Drug Charges

A Ballston Spa man was sentenced on Wednesday to 2 years in jail for drug charges. WNYT reports 52 year old
Jason E. Horn was arrested with four other people in August after a lengthy investigation into illegal narcotics possession and sales in Saratoga County. Police found drugs after searches of homes in Saratoga Springs and Milton.
