Wednesday Fire Claims Life In Ravena

One person was killed in a structure fire Wednesday morning in the Village of Ravena, according to the Albany County Sheriff’s Office. The fire broke out inside a residence on McCulloch Avenue at around 6:30 a.m. When crews arrived, they were told one person was still inside and found the individual while fighting the fire. The person, who hasn’t been identified, was pronounced dead at the scene.

Suspect Pleads Not Guilty In Deadly Cohoes Shooting

25 year old Nalik Sealy of South Carolina, was charged with second-degree murder and second-degree possession of a weapon in connection with a deadly shooting that happened in Cohoes last August. Sealy pleaded not guilty on Wednesday to his charges in connection with the fatal shooting of 27 year old Shieer Leggett of Albany. He was remanded without bail.

$10.6 Million In FAA Funding For Albany International

Albany International Airport has received $10.6 million in funding for rehabilitation and infrastructure improvements. The funding from the Federal Aviation Administration will be used for upgrades to Terminal A including expanding holding room capacity, adding two new passenger boarding bridges and improving the HVAC and electrical system.

Two Saratoga Restaurants Seized By The State

Two Saratoga Springs restaurants have been seized by the state. The Daily Gazette reports the notices indicated the businesses — The District and Nashville of Saratoga, both on Phila Street — were closed by the State Department of Taxation and Finance. The District reportedly owes $25,000 in unpaid taxes. Nashville of Saratoga has warrants totaling $80,803 against it, say state tax officials.

Teen Arrested After Bomb Threat At Schenectady Casino

A teenager was arrested following a bomb threat at Rivers Casino in Schenectady early Tuesday. WRGB reports police responded to Rivers Casino for the report of a bomb threat that had been called into staff. Police worked with casino security to evacuate the gaming floor then brought in police explosive-detecting dogs to assist with a full search of the property.
Around 4 a.m., it was determined that the property was safe and staff as well as guests were able to return.

Albany County DA To Return Grant Money Used For Raises

The Albany County District Attorney David Soares took state grant money and used it to give himself and some staff members 11 percent bonuses in December. In Soares’s case, that meant an extra $22,000 in addition to his $200,000 salary. WTEN reports he released a video statement on Monday and said the issue has become a distraction, so he plans to give the money back to the county.

Free Flu Vax Event For Saratoga County Seniors

The Saratoga County Department of Health is making sure everyone at risk for flu, especially those at high risk, are safe.
The department is holding a free influenza vaccination clinic for Saratoga County seniors on Thursday, Feb. 15., reports WNYT. Appointments are required and can be made by calling 518-885-2276. The event is free and will be at the Saratoga County Public Safety building from 9 a.m. until noon.

NYRA Says Demand Is High For Belmont Stakes Tix

There’s a high demand for Belmont Stakes tickets. WNYT reports NYRA has reported that they have already received 36,000 Belmont Stakes presale registrations. Those registrations have been coming in since they opened about a month ago on Jan. 15. Tickets for the four-day festival will go on sale this Thursday, Feb. 16.
