Saratoga County Board of Supervisors Chairman Phil Barrett plans to ask the Albany City Council for the bronze statue on behalf of his county, which Albany finally removed from public view last June. The Daily Gazette reports Barrett declined to comment on the matter beyond acknowledging that he planned to make the “genuine request” during the public comment period of Thursday’s city council meeting in Albany.

Guilty Plea In Moreau Lake State Park Abduction
The man who kidnapped a 9-year-old girl from Moreau Lake State Park last September is facing 47 years to life in prison after admitting to the crime on Wednesday. WNYT reports Craig Ross Jr., 46, pleaded guilty in Saratoga County Court to kidnapping and another charge against him. Sentencing is scheduled for April 17 at 2 p.m.
16 Year Old Stabbed In Clifton Park
Police are investigating the stabbing of a 16-year-old in Clifton Park Tuesday night. WNYT reports officers went to Redfield Park just after 7:30 p.m. and found the teen with multiple stab wounds to his upper body and leg.
The victim was taken to Albany Medical Center for evaluation and treatment. No word on suspects in the case.
Three Charged After Police Pursuit
Three people have been arrested in Malta after an alleged pursuit with a child in the vehicle. Police say the driver, an 18-year-old, was driving more than 100 miles per hour. And, after failing to comply with police — a pursuit of the vehicle began.
Once stopped, an infant was found in the vehicle, and allegedly, so was a controlled substance.
The driver is facing several charges — including endangering the welfare of a child.
Public Hearing On Short Term Rentals In Saratoga
On Tuesday, a public hearing was held with conflicting opinions on Saratoga Springs proposed legislature for short-term rentals in the city. Under new legislation, only owner-occupied properties will be eligible for short-term rentals. The city will also require permit records from the city fire department and accounts office, showing the owners are up on all their inspections, along with a $1,000 application fee for a two-year permit.
Theater Auctioning Off Role In Upcoming Production
Saratoga Springs Homemade Theater is auctioning off the Tinkerbell role in its production of ‘Peter Pan.’ They have costume sizes that fit all sizes, adults and kids included and are looking for a Tinkerbell of any age, size or gender. Anyone who wins the auction will come backstage during intermission and put on a costume. Performances are Feb. 23 through March 2.
Saratoga Public Safety Commissioner Disputes State Report
The Saratoga Springs public safety commissioner is calling a state report on the city’s response to protests 2021 full of “gross inaccuracies” and “woefully incomplete.” According to WNYT, Tim Coll, who took office in January, issued a statement saying he met with the Attorney General’s Office regarding its report on the response to Black Lives Matter protests, which said police fired pepper balls, shoved, tackled, and forcibly dispersed protesters.”
GlobalFoundries To Expand Fab 8 Manufacturing Site
GlobalFoundries will invest more than $11.6 billion over the next 10 years to expand its existing Fab 8 semiconductor manufacturing site allowing the company to immediately expand its existing facility and then build a new, 358,000 square-foot semiconductor manufacturing facility on its campus in Malta, tripling its capacity to meet growing demand for chips and creating more than 1,500 direct jobs and thousands of indirect jobs.
Galway Blueberry Farm Up For Sale
A controversial blueberry farm, which the town of Galway says has an illegal building erected on it, is now up for sale for almost $2.3 million following months of anger by town residents over the project. The Daily Gazette reports the property consists of an over-4,000-square-foot home with three bedrooms and seven bathrooms, as well as a custom kitchen and four garage spaces, plus 30 acres of blueberry fields.
30 Lake Closes Doors In Saratoga
30 Lake, located at 30 Lake Avenue inside the Perennial Apartments in Saratoga Springs, has permanently closed its doors. According to WNYT, the owners made the announcement on the 30 Lake Facebook page Monday, calling it a difficult decision.
