Timothy J. Feldman, 23, a former Schoharie County corrections officer, was sentenced to two to six years in a state correctional facility after pleading guilty to criminal possession of a weapon. Feldman was reportedly caught with a loaded ghost gun in Saratoga Springs on July 23. According to the indictment, Feldman attempted to enter a bar on Caroline Street on July 23. A bouncer located the firearm and flagged down officers of the Saratoga Springs Police Department who were nearby.

Downed trees and power lines were reported across the Capital Region Wednesday night as a storm system rolled through, bringing strong wind, rain, and frigid temperatures. WRGB reports according to the National Weather Service’s Local Storm Report, fallen trees and wires were reported in multiple counties in New York and Massachusetts including Albany, Saratoga, Rensselaer, Schenectady, Montgomery, and Berkshire Counties.

The South Colonie school district is the latest to approve a new mascot. WNYT reports the district is replacing the name Raiders with Wolf Pack. The Board of Education on Tuesday voted to make the change. This comes as school districts across the state have been phasing out Native-themed mascots and logos to comply with the State Education Department.

The owner of Trust a Fence is accused of receiving money from two victims for fence installations, but never starting either project or returning the money. WRGB reports 31-year-old James Butler, was charged with two counts of grand larceny on February 23. In January, Troopers said it received two complaints of contractor theft in the Capital Region, one in Saratoga County, the other in Warren County. According to New York State Police, the two victims hired Butler for contracted fence installations.

Saratoga County is launching a school-based opioid and substance use disorder support program to tackle the rising use of addictive substances and drugs in school-aged children. According to WTEN, certified recovery peer advocates will work directly with school resource officers to provide addiction and substance abuse services.

SPAC has announced that in celebration of Earth Day, it will present “Here on Earth.” The performance, happening on April 21 at Spa Little Theater at 3 p.m., will feature pianist, speaker, and activist Lara Downes and chamber ensemble Miró Quartet. WTEN reports tickets will cost anywhere from $38 to $68. They will be available for members on Wednesday and for the general public, Friday.

The firm investigating whether the Saratoga Springs City School District fostered an abusive culture in athletics has completed its report, school officials confirmed on Tuesday. WNYT reports a district spokeswoman said that the report by the Harris Beach law firm is complete, and the district would determine this week when its release date would be. The Board of Education has a scheduled meeting on Thursday at 7 p.m. This topic is not listed as one of the agenda items.
