A Schenectady man was sentenced in the fatal hit-and-run in Ballston Spa that happened in November. 38 year old Gary Lucas was sentenced to one and one-third to four years for leaving the scene of an incident without reporting a death and traffic law violations. WTEN reports Lucas was traveling on Route 50 in Ballston Spa when he struck Meredith Hamilton, 47, who was in the area of the crosswalk at the intersection of Brookline Road. The Ballston Spa woman died at the scene.

Ballston Spa Central School District will host a public hearing tonight on a proposed 2024-25 spending plan increasing district spending by 2.8% and the amount collected through taxes 4.1%. The Daily Gazette reports the district has proposed a $107,179,996 budget for the 2024-25 school year, as compared to $104,232,811 for the 2023-24 school year.

A homeless man is in Saratoga County Jail after police say he stole a car and hit a sheriff’s patrol vehicle while fleeing.
WRGB reports deputies responded to reports of a stolen vehicle on I-87 northbound near Exit 10 in Clifton Park Monday night just before 6:45 p.m. 37 year old Jacob R. Hayner was arrested and charged with reckless endangerment, criminal mischief and unlawful fleeing a police officer in a motor vehicle.

Results show more than 100 water sources in the Shenendehowa Central School District have levels of lead above state maximum levels. WRGB reports the State Department of Health has set that level at 5 parts per billion (ppb).
While a vast majority of the sources that tested above are sink faucets, at least 17 are fountains, usually used for drinking. In all, at least 114 samples came back with elevated. One sink faucet tested at 1,910 parts per billion.

The former director of the Capital Region sex cult NXIVM was released from prison, according to the federal department of prisons. Clare Bronfman has been moved to community confinement. WTEN reports a federal judge had denied her request for a sentence reduction just 10 days ago. She is set to be released from prison in June 2025.

Saratoga Automobile Museum is gearing up for its 22nd Spring Auto Show on Saturday, May 11. WTEN reports the show will feature classic cars, hot-rods, and more at Saratoga Spa State Park from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Two records were set at Saratoga Casino Hotel over the weekend. According to WNYT, a record payout of $55,800 went to one lucky winner who bought a 20¢ ticket on Saratoga’s Jackpot Super High Five. Saratoga Casino also set a single day live racing all-source handle record of just under $715,000.

The attorney for a Saratoga Springs man accused of killing his former partner and mother of his child needs more time to decide whether to take a plea. WNYT reports 31 year old Sebastian Mabb is charged with second-degree murder. He allegedly killed Brianna Craig inside a home at Vanderbilt Terrace on Feb. 6. Craig was smothered with a pillow, according to law enforcement sources.

GlobalFoundries recently announced the GF–Town of Stillwater Foundation approved its 2024 slate of public grants totaling $42,000 benefiting local community organizations seeking to bring educational opportunities and positive change to the health, safety, and well-being of local residents. The Saratogian reports the Foundation has invested more than $587,000 in organizations in the Stillwater community since 2011.

Rotterdam police are investigating vandalism at a Jewish cemetery. Thirty-four headstones were knocked over and damaged at the Jewish Memorial Park in Rotterdam. WTEN reports the first report of vandalism came to them on April 22. The person who reported it to police believed the vandalism began a few weeks earlier. Police have no suspects and no motive. The vandals knocked over dozens of headstones.
