Annual Fundraiser For United Preservation Hall

Lifeworks Community Action, which used to be known as Saratoga County Economic Opportunity Council, is holding its big annual fundraiser at Universal Preservation Hall on Friday, May 24. According to WNYT, billed as the Saratoga summer kickoff event, it’s called In-Bloom and features dinner, drinks and dancing to Garland Nelson and Soul Session.

Albany Reaches $3 Million Settlement With Man Shot By Police

The city of Albany has reached a $3 million settlement with the man who sued police after he was paralyzed in an officer-involved shooting in 2018. WNYT reports Ellazar Williams had filed a lawsuit in U.S. District Court alleging violations of his civil rights. He was paralyzed after being shot by police. His attorneys had argued that he was running away from police.

Saratoga County Trail To Close For Paving

The Zim Smith Trail in Malta is closed from Eastline Road in Malta to Curry Road in Round Lake through Friday for a paving project. According to WNYT, that section of trail will be open during the Memorial Day weekend and then close again next Tuesday through Thursday.

Gaffney’s Owners Face Foreclosure Proceedings

The owners of Gaffney’s bar in Saratoga Springs are facing foreclosure proceedings. WNYT reports a claim has been filed by John F. Baker and Supreme Cuisine Inc. against Caroline Street Properties LLC and Elfont Saratoga, which owns the property at 16 Caroline St. The claim alleges that the owners of Gaffney’s have fallen behind on payments toward a $2.45 million mortgage. They missed the March, April and May payments. They also owe nearly $274,000 in property taxes as of April.

The 2024 Stewart’s Signature Series unveils an exciting list of summer events, open to the public this June and July. Leader Of Pro Palestine Demonstation That Blocked Street Charged

Saratoga Springs Police said Tuesday that the organizer of a pro-Palestine demonstration that blocked the street has been charged. WNYT reports Dozens of people marched on Broadway on May 1 in a rally organized by Black Lives Matter. Police said demonstrators did not seek a permit before demonstrating in Congress Park. That is a violation of city ordinance.

Three Workers Badly Burned At Troy Hydroelectric Dam Site

Three workers were badly burned Tuesday morning at Mount Ida Hydroelectric Dam near Congress Street in Troy. It happened around 8 a.m. WNYT reports the men were contactors who were working at the facility. An electrical arc or large spark happened as they were working about 45 feet down a 90-foot spiral staircase.

Man Accused Of Threatening Halfmoon Homeowner

A Verona man is accused of unlawfully entering someone’s home in Halfmoon intending to commit a crime, hiding in the homeowner’s closet, and threatening her with a liquor bottle, according to the Saratoga County Sheriff’s Office. WTEN reports 26 year old John Rathbun faces several charges following the incident.

Summer Parking Permits For Saratoga Residents

Leaders in Saratoga Springs are reminding drivers who live in the city to register for a summer parking permit. The seasonable parking program allows drivers who live in the city to park in the city owned lots and garages for free. WTEN reports it’s meant to give priority to residents during the track season. Non-residents will need to pay a fee of $2 per hour. Street parking will remain free for everyone.

Woman Killed In Clifton Park Crash ID’ed

Police have identified the woman killed in a Clifton Park crash on Friday on North Parkwood Drive. WNYT reports 60 year old
Deborah M. Bushey was trapped in the vehicle, which caught fire, according to the Saratoga County Sheriff’s Office. She died at the scene. The cause is under investigation.
