In New York City, a Saratoga Springs author got a moment in the spotlight in the middle of Times Square. On Thursday, the cover of Melissa Kahl’s book, Ellie’s Masterclass, was displayed on the Nasdaq board in Times Square. WTEN reports the book was released in November 2023 and has won multiple awards.

SCSO Makes Two Arrests In Stolen Trailer Case

The Saratoga County Sheriff’s Office reported the arrest of two Malta men on arrest warrants on Sunday. Jacques Boisvert, 45, and Jacques Boisvert IV, 20, are being charged with third-degree criminal possession of stolen property. WTEN reports
Boisvert and Boisvert IV are accused of having a stolen trailer valued at $3,000. They were arraigned in Malta Town Court.

20 Year Old Charged In Deadly Malta Fight

Investigators have released the name of the man who was killed Friday night. The Saratoga County Sheriff’s Office says Brian Miller, 53, of Malta was hit in the head with a wrench during a large fight near Malta Pointe Apartments. That blow to the head is what authorities say caused Miller’s death. WNYT reports 20 year old Cyrus J. Tetreault of Watervliet has been arrested, and charged with first degree manslaughter, and fourth degree criminal possession of a weapon.

Saratoga County Fire Coordinator Retires

On Thursday morning, Saratoga County Fire Coordinator Ed Tremblay was honored for his 29 years of service with a walkout ceremony. Tremblay became fire coordinator in 1995 and has coordinated several firefighter classes, investigations, and disaster deployments. WTEN reports Tremblay chaired the Volunteer Chiefs Committee for the New York State Association of Fire Chiefs and served as President from 2017 to 2020. Tremblay was the chief of the West Crescent Fire Department and is a lifelong member.

Saratoga Public Safety Plan Ahead Of Belmont Stakes

Saratoga Springs police are talking about the public safety plan that will go into effect, starting with the Belmont on Broadway event on Wednesday. WTEN reports Broadway will be closed between Lake Ave. and Vandam St. – between City Center and City Hall – starting on Wednesday June 5 at 5:00 A.M. for Belmont on Broadway. Blues Traveler is the headliner for the free, family-friendly concert that kicks off the Belmont Stakes Racing Festival.

National Grid Proposes Natural Gas, Electricity Rate Hikes

Your gas and electric bills could soon see a steep hike, unless state lawmakers step in. WNYT reports National Grid submitted a new rate plan to state legislators that would increase the average person’s utility bill by nearly $40 a month.
The company asked for a 15% increase in electricity rates, and 20% for natural gas. The requested increases would take effect next year if the Public Service Commission approves them.

Malta Man Charged With Grand Larceny

A Malta man was arrested following a larceny investigation, according to the Saratoga County Sheriff’s Office. Clayton Callan, 37, is facing multiple charges. According to WTEN, Callan is accused of stealing over $1,000 from the Northway Golf Center on Crescent Road in Halfmoon around 5:03 p.m. on Tuesday. Police say he also allegedly altered the store’s business records, reportedly intending to defraud and commit another crime.

Cohoes School District Official Resigns In Wake Of Alleged Assault

An emergency board meeting was held at Cohoes Middle School on Wednesday evening to accept the resignation of James P. Stapleton, the district’s facilities director, who is accused of punching Assistant Superintendent Dan Martinelli on school property in April. WTEN reports Assistant Superintendent Dan Martinelli has submitted his resignation from the Cohoes City School District following an alleged assault by Stapleton, who is facing charges of third degree assault and harassment for the incident.

Kaylin Gillis’ Father Discusses A & E Show On Daughter’s Death

Kaylin Gillis’ father, Andrew Gillis, has a strong response after news that the man convicted of shooting and killing his daughter might be telling his story to the producers of an A&E show, reports WNYT. The producers of the show call “Accused: Guilty or Innocent” are seeking to interview Monahan for an episode. Gillis’ father Andrew wrote to the network, telling them it would be in extremely poor taste to conduct and air an interview.

Driver Charged After Crash That Killed Mechanicville Man

A Copake man drove drunk Saturday and struck a motorcyclist from Saratoga County, killing the motorcyclist. The Daily Gazette reports killed in the crash was 29 year old Christopher Simmons of Mechanicville. The Copake man, identified as Alan Ingraham, 75, was charged with second-degree vehicular manslaughter, a felony, among other charges, officials said.
