Festive Light Displays In Lake George
Through a lease with the Albany Police Athletic League, Lake George installed several festive light displays that Mayor Raymond Perry will turn on for the holiday season. It is also a walking-only event, as driving by only a few displays can be seen. WTEN reports lights will turn on at 4 p.m. and shut off at 9 p.m. Thursday through Sunday until Saturday, March 1, 2025. The displays will light up every day of the week of Christmas and New Year’s.
Event Gives SSHS Students Acceptance At SUNY Adirondack
At Saratoga Springs High School, many seniors are now accepted to SUNY Adirondack after their graduation.
It’s all part of SUNY Adirondack’s instant admission event Tuesday which gives graduating seniors the chance to be accepted on the spot, as students learned about the college admission process.
Warren County Approves 2025 Budget
Warren County’s proposed 2025 budget, which calls for appropriations of $207.1 million, was approved Nov. 15 by the county Board of Supervisors. Sun Community News reports the budget features an increase in spending of $14.3 million. The spending plan calls for a property tax levy of $53.1 million, an increase of $3.3 million or 6.62 percent higher than in 2024.
Queensbury Public Hearing On Cannabis Dispensary Plans
A public hearing is being held in Queensbury Thursday night to hear the community’s opinion regarding a local liquor store owner’s plans for a cannabis dispensary. According to WRGB, Monty Liu, owner of Monty’s Discount Wine & Liquor store situated at 909 Route 9 in Queensbury, is looking to open a recreational cannabis dispensary in the empty 16,000-square-foot addition Liu recently completed.
Clifton Park Man Sentenced In Deadly Barbershop Killing
A Clifton Park man has been sentenced to 25 years to life after pleading guilty to first-degree manslaughter. 20 year old Timmoure Miller was indicted in October 2023 and pleaded guilty in October 2024 to his involvement in the shooting death of 47-year-old barber Tyrone Staley, stemming from a shooting at a barber shop that left Staley dead and a 9-year-old boy and a 19-year-old injured.
Saturday Fire In Mechanicsville Displaces Two Families
A fire broke out in a multi-story home in Mechanicville on Saturday morning. Fire crews responded to the fire at 156 Saratoga Avenue around 8:45 a.m. and said no one was injured. WTEN reports the fire was controlled by 9:15 a.m., and everyone safely exited the home. Dunn said the cause of the fire is under investigation and is not considered suspicious. Two families were displaced by the blaze.
Glens Falls Symphony To Perform ‘Peter And The Wolf’ For School Kids
School children in Washington, Warren and Saratoga counties are in for a treat this week when they get to see a live performance of “Peter and the Wolf” put on by the Glens Falls Symphony Orchestra. WNYT reports the first performance is Tuesday, Nov. 19 at Hudson Falls High School and there will be students from Hudson Falls, Glens Falls and Corinth in attendance.
Ballston Spa man caught with meth found on traffic stop
Alexander G. Connell, 38, of Ballston Spa was stopped for speeding on Washington Street according to the Saratoga County Sheriff’s Office. Connell had meth in his possession and allegedly was driving with a suspended license. The city of Glens Falls’ proposed 2025 budget includes no property tax increase.The final version of the $25.5 million spending plan was presented at the Common Council meeting. Mayor Bill Collins says he is satisfied with the most recent iteration that, for the first time in more than two decades, has no property tax increase.
